Really nervous/scared about shot????!
Question: ok....im getting that new shot for girls to prevent cancer
and its 3 shots....but not all at the same time...
i already got the first one and it hurt alot!!! i'm getting the second one tomorrow
i've heard that the second one doesnt hurt as much.......that its like any other shot. is this true? cuz i mean the other regular shots dont really hurt. if you got all the shots can you tell me if the second one hurts??
i already know that the first one hurts like crazy....i already got it thank goodness.....oh and just cuz im curious does the third one hurt?

The difference is the size of the needle and whether or not it is injected into the muscle or the fat. If it's painful, it sounds like it's given in the muscle (IM). The best way to combat this problem is to use a larger muscle. Don't get it in the arm. Try the buttocks or thigh region. Those are much larger muscles. You also have to use the muscle so it doesn't tense up. If your muscle is tense when you get an injection it will hurt. Just relax and close your eyes and let the nurse take care of the rest. They all feel pretty much the same....maybe its the shot-giver that made it hurt....hold your breath and don't look when the needle is going in....
I work in a family planning clinic. Trust me the shots may hurt but think of what your gaining. It can prevent cervical cancer. This is wonderful. Cervical cancer can be cause by HPV which is warts. These warts can cause cancer but also abnormal pap smears. If you had these the biopsies, etc. would be a lot more painful then a shot.
Continue the shot and protect yourself.
