How Long Does Your Period Last?!
Question: I have really heavy bleeding the first two days - I end up wearing a pad AND a tampon for extra protection, usually changing every 5 hours or so. Then it lasts for another 3 or 4 days. Is this healthy? Or normal? I guess I would just like to hear from a few other women about it. Thanks!

Sounds totally normal to me. I am usually on a five-day cycle. the first day is very light, the second and third days are very heavy and then it starts to taper off.
Sometimes I am surprised at how many tampons I use - sometimes as often as an hour or two, sometimes four hours. I found that most times (but not always) when I begin to cramp, my plug needs changing - it's like a little alarm. Then the cramps go away.
If leakage is a problem, you may try a different brand of tampon. I would hate to wear a pad and a tampon - I prefer a very thin pantiliner with a sturdy tampon. Ever since 7th grade when the cutest boy in school pinched my butt and got a handful of pad instead, I've been terrified of pads!
OB makes "ultra" absorbency tampons that always get me through the night and very heavy days - better than a "super plus." However, many women don't like OB because there is no applicator (but they are so very discrete in your purse!).
i have my period really heavy on the 2nd and 3rd day, then it lightens up..
i get my cramps on the second day :( not fun.......
i usually bleed only a little on my first day.....
sounds normal. mines 7 days heavy the first 4 or 5. im sure your fine
before i went on the pill, i had it heavy the first three days or so, and i had it a total of 7. As long as you arent losing enormous amounts of blood, youre fine.
A normal period, from what Ive been told, and read, can last anywhere from 2 to 7 days.
The heavy bleeding for the first couple of days is normal-happens to me too.
i've done the same before, at least 1st couple days are heavy and goes lighter. mine lasts about 5 days, and i change pads depending on a flow so if you change every 5 hours, good for you. once i used tampon as an experiment... it still wetted underwear! so i had to use pads... i dont know how tampon can 100% stop bleeding to underwear. you sound normal. if you are healthy and ate /rested well prior, seems to me, you bleed little more... as to my experience. relax!!! period helps you lose weight LOL
how old are you.
If you are young, yes this is normal. You should change it at least every 3-4 hours anyway to avoid toxic shock syndrome.
