The hymen is a thin lining of tissue, I would imagine it to be possible that some females do not have them. As far as sex being painful, your hymen is not something that causes pain. Protruding through the tissue may be painful the first time you have sex or wear a tampon, etc. If you have heard from people that their sexual experiences were painful, I would be almost 100% positive that it wasn't from their hymen. It could have been a ton of other things.

I dont think I bled the first time but it was a little painful. I'm thinking part of it depends on how large the guy is.

so I just found out that only 43% (women) reported to have bled during sex so you must be one of the 57%.

And of course you have a hymen, it stretches and that's why it doesn't hurt.

some girls dont have one, most do. Many girls break theirs long before they ever have sex by doing sports or other things. Sex hurts if your body is not ready for it (not sexually mature, not turned on) otherwise it should not hurt.

I bled and it hurt the first time. It wasn't at all pleasant for the first, but the second was much better, and third, even better then that. Your hymen may not have been intact due to injury from before you had sex, or perhaps your body was just different.

Sex can hurt for other reasons besides the tearing of the hymen. The male be larger then what the female is used too, there may not be proper lubrication, she could be sore from other activity.

It's actually not skin or thin membrane like most were told. It's actually a thick membranous wall. Most of it probably tears away with strenuous activity (such as bike riding, some sports) or even just the growth of the size of the vagina changes it.

It also varies from woman to woman and not all bleed and feel pain.

I didn't bleed or feel pain the first time I had sex, and my partner was about inches. It was every enjoyable because he took his time and was gentle.

Yes it's quite true that some girls are born w/o a hymen, or more accurate with so little membrane tissue that it is irrelevant. The hymen is formed as a byproduct of reproductive organ formation and has no purpose.

And your hymen can be torn or wear down from living a normal physically active life (think sports, horse riding, using tampons..) years before you have sex. It is totally normal not to bleed or hurt the first time you have sex.

Hope this helps :)
