Ok ill go question by question. First congrats on waiting this long and actually wanting to get all the information before jumping into it.
Condoms sadly, even if used correctly are only 97% effective in preventing pregnancy. The most common ways that peple mis use condoms is by not using enough lubrication and not putting the on correctly. To put them on correctly, first purchase a lubricated condom (for increased pleasure you can try a polyureathane condom which provides the same amount of protection as latex but is better for extrasensitive skin.), check the expiration date on the condom, open it without using your teeth or a sharp object, squeeze the tip and place on head of erect penis, slowly roll down, smooth out air bubbles, but keep the space on the tip of the condom, this is the space in which you will ejaculate, hold the base of the condom as you insert into vagina. to correctly use more lubrication, place a drop inside the tip of the condom and outside of the condom. As try rubbing her clitoris or preforming oral before inserting penis, this will create sexual fluid and relax muscle that sometimes tighten and cause pain when inserting penis.
There are many different contraceptives, she will have to go to her gyn. to get one prescribed. It is usually recommended that you wait a month before engaging in intercourse. There is the daily pill, weekly patch, the shot, the 3 week nuva ring, and many more options. Most of which offer 99% pertection, that's more than a condom. There are many side effects to birth control, sometimes its a trial and error kind of thing. There is also the possiblility of drug interactions and blood clots if she smokes, so tell her to tell her doctor everything. Also be aware of spermicide some women have claimed that it irritates the inside of the vagina. It should also be known that it only lasts an hour.
As far as a perfect time, every woman is different but one thing is common for all women, they are "in heat" after their period. There tends to be slight fluid release after menstruation that is meant to encourage sexual activity. Sex during menstuation increases the chance of infection or STI because the vagina cervix is open.
I also like to tell you that as a guy, you can practice before the actual act. Maturbating can help you last a longer time by masturbating and once you are close to an orgasm stop yourself, then start again. You can do the same thing during intercourse, use the stopping time to do little things like kiss her or change positions.
Its also important to talk before about sexual expectations such as what is off limits and have a safety word just in case its too painful or uncomfortable for either of you.
Hope this helps

Condoms coupled with your gf taking the pill is the best form of contraception as neither the pill or a condom is 100% effective. She should go on the pill first.

There is no 100% answer. Condoms can break. Birth control isn't always effective either. I've known women who have gotten pregnant more than once while taking the pill. It is important to talk to your doctor and/or family planning clinic that will give you the best advice.

Condoms are only like 94% effective if used right, Pills you take one every day and they are pretty effective if they are taken about the same time everyday and don't miss one. they do cause side effects but not alot of people stop taking them because of it...and sorry there is no time that she is less likely to become pregnant. If she is willing there is a birthcontrol called Mirena IUD(inter uterine device) the ob places it in you uterus and it is 99.9 % effective in preventing pregnancy. It is not overly painful to have put in and it is done in a matter of seconds. Talk to her and have her talk to doctor to find what will be better for her...good luck.-She may not be a candidate for the IUD I think you have to have already had a child to get one...I disagree with lola I had a miscarriage on dec 8th stopped bleeding on the 18th and found out I was pregnant on jan 4th doc said after before during you can get pregnant anytime period.

you can check out my answers for the safe period, under my answered questions. regarding the correct use of condoms and pills, mail me - jovial_dsouza@yahoo.co.uk - i will certainly help you.

First, i think this guy deserves a trophy for this question. Not many people can say they are 22, a virgin, only having sex because its a serious relationship, and really want to understand the proper use of birth control. Congrats, you are definatly mature enough to have sex.
On the outside of a condom box, you'll find directions on how to put it on. Also, your girl needs to go to the doctor and ask about contraception, because it is very complicated. Also, just AFTER she had her period, is the safest time to have sex. There are many other methods of birth control too, but a doctor is the only one who can best descibe them

yes condoms are reasonably SAFE. they have instructions on the packet. contraceptive pills are 100 percent safe. yes there is a reasonably safe period at a certain time in the month.
