25 % of women will gain more than 10lb while on the pill - so their breasts will get bigger as they get fatter.
25% of women will lose more than 10lb while on the pill.
50% of women don't gain or lose more than 10lb.

If you are under 25 then your breasts will probably get bigger, and you will get heavier, but that has nothing to do with the pill, it's simply because your body isn't finished growing until you are 25 years old.

It definitely helps with the cramps - you produce up to 2/3rds less uterine lining than without the pill, so your body doesn't have to cramp so hard to get it out, and your period is lighter.

Some people find that it cures their acne, some people find that it makes it worse.

The pill works in several different ways. It prevents you from ovulating. No egg = no pregnancy. It reduces the lining of the uterus, making it harder for any fertilised egg to implant, and it thickens the cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to reach any egg.

Your doctor will look at your medical history before prescribing the one that they think is best for you. But you may have to try several pills for at least three months each before you find one that works well for you.

If I was just starting out on birth control I'd go for Seasonale as you only have to put up with 4 periods a year, or maybe the new one Lybrel, which means you don't have to have any periods at all. They are totally safe. You don't actually need to have a period when you are on the pill, it was a marketing thing to make it seem more natural. The pill totally overrides your natural cycle, and the monthly bleeding is unnecessary
