How long does a yeast infection last?!!!?!

Question: I noticed 5 days ago things weren't right...which was Wed. So, on thursday I went and he said it was a yeast infection, and he gave me a prescription. By Saturday, I am still dying, so he also gives me a steroid cream. It's sunday night, I have zero relief....what in the heck is going on? I was on a new birth control, which I am sure caused this. Has anyone had a long lasting yeast infection? I also bought some probiotics from the health food store too. It itches and burns and is super uncomfortable. Please help. How long does this last?

Yikes! Sorry for your discomfort.
Prescription medication is generally not the answer for most people. The drugs tend to mask the yeast infection symptoms while the body naturally fights the infection.

The problem with this is if your not following a proper diet and hygiene regimen while you're using the medicine, you won't find any permanent results.

You'll find that the yeast infection comes back. Known as a recurring yeast infection.

Try the following.

1. Avoid complex carbohydrates and simple sugars from your diet.
2. Sleep with no underwear and wear cotton panties during the day.
3. Eat plain yogurt (a natural probiotic).
4. Put two drops of tea tree oil on a tampon and insert. Do this for a couple of days. The tea tree oil is a natural antifungal.
5. Avoid body sprays and scented soaps.
6. Try applying Garlic directly to the affected area. It may burn a tiny bit, but the natural acidity in the garlic with restore your body's normal PH balance and kill the Candida. You can apply the garlic for up to 12 hours at a time. Do this no more than 2 days.

Best of luck

don't itch

well, maybe you are allergic to the steroid cream if it is bothering you. I am not sure what kind of prescription he gave you. Was it cream? a pill? Stop using the steriod cream. Call a nurse and find out if they can prescribe something else. Maybe try monistat over the counter. Unfortunately yeast infections hurt like crazy. It usually don't take long for them to heal depends on the type of treatment you use. Not really sure what you can do for the pain. I have only had two or three in my life cured them right away with three day monistat treatment.

a yeast infection can be contributed by the pill because when on the pill your body is tricked into believing you are pregant (hense why people sometimes gain weight). And in pregant women it is very common to have several long lasting yeast infections. However, if a yeast infection last 3-6 months i suggest going to see a doctor to look for underlying medical conditons. Diabetes, pregnancy and other diseases can cause a yeast infection that just won't go away. Try eating yogurt or taking AZO yeast. Also if you are very irriated down there try taking a warm bath in aveeno oatmeal bath. (it will help with the itching). And if that still doesn't work i suggest getting a second opinion or demanding for a high dosage pill and/or cream.

Too long in any case. You can get a tablet for this now, over the counter.
