Pregnancy Test?!

Question: Me and my boyfriend had sex about a week ago and the condom broke. I am in between bc and about to take yaz, as Ortho tricylen was awful and caused depression. I took the morning after pill immediately following, less than two hours after the condom broke. My period should come in a couple of days but i am so nervous. Is it too early to take a first response pregnancy test? Please no lecturing, helpful comments or insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks for your help.

Although First Response says it "can detect the pregnancy horme five days before a missed period", the important word in that phrase is "CAN"; there's no guarantee. It's important to note that some women don't produce enough HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin, the pregnancy hormone) in their urine for it to be detected at all.

Most experts say to wait about 10 days after a missed period, as that's when most pregnancy tests are most accurate.

As you are so nervous, I get the impression that even if your First Response test were negative you still would worry.

If you had sex a week before your period was due, you may be safe. How ovulation and pregnancy works:

1. Let's assume your periods are 28 days apart.
2. On Day 14, your ovary releases an egg (ovulation). The egg travels into the fallopian tube http://z.about.com/d/p/440/e/f/10339.jpg... where if it isn't fertilized in about 24 hours it dies.
3. If the egg is fertilized, it travels (3-5 days) to the uterus, where it implants if the egg and uterine lining are viable.
4. As sperm can take several hours to reach the fallopian tube, the optimum time to have sex if you want pregnancy (and I know you don't), is the day before, the day of, or the day after ovulation.
5. If your periods are longer than 28 days apart, you probably ovulate about 14 days before your period.
6. Some women know when they ovulate. You may have one-sided ovarian pain or you may have vaginal spotting.

No lecturing here! You have obviously used birth control pills in the past and are switching due to adverse effects, and you're using an alternate form of birth control (condoms). It may be helpful to use spermicide with the condoms in case another one breaks on you.

Yeah, it's too early. It says on the pregnancy test how soon after conception you can take the test.
