Breast pain as part of PMS?!

Question: I have never had breast pain as part of PMS before, but this month I am having pains in my left breast and I think it's about time for me to start my period. I am wondering if this could be a new symptom of PMS since I was on Nuva Ring for about a year and recently stopped using it because I don't have insurance anymore. Does anybody else experience breast pain as a part of PMS?

Yes, I get very sore breasts during the week before my period, to the point that walking is often a painful amount of movement. I also periodically (though not every month) get stabbing pains in my left breast during that week. I've had it for a few years now and have been checked out for it several times by my doctor.

She says that since it happens only at that specific time of the month and there are no lumps that we can find in that area that it's just how I experience PMS. Not fun, but it is what it is. Definitely check with your doctor, but it's totally possible that it's just what your hormones do to you.

yeah my breasts get sensitive and so do your nipples. thats what happens for me at least.

I realize I am not the authority on this subject since I am a dude, but my girlfriend has sore breasts every time before her period and considers it the most reliable sign that her period is on the way.

I wouldn't ever say breast "pain" is a normal part of PMS, but breast tenderness is very common. Because of the hormonal changes taking place right before menstruation breast can increase in size and become tender.

By tender, I mean the nipples become very sensitive so much that stimulation can not be tolerated. Also, the breast tissue itself gets sore, and you may need to wear a bra full time (especially if you don't wear one to bed normally).

It is odd that you are only experiencing this in one breast. If you are experiencing anything other than what I described or if the tenderness is more severe so that it is pain you should see the doctor. Also, if it doesn't go away in a few days after your PMS has passed you should see the doctor. Breast pain, especially in one breast can be a sign of cancer. Don't freak out, just keep it in mind. Make sure you do regular self-exams, and if you are over 40 you should get mammograms once a year.

Hope this helps.

I do--my breasts get really tender and my nipples are hyper sensitive about two weeks before I start; I'm 20 too--and it is totally normal. Cutting down on your caffeine intake can help reduce the pain/tenderness. Hope you feel better soon!

My breast get sore and so do my nipples, but I don't ever get specific pain on them. I think whichever way, u should still consult a doctor. I've heard of sore or tender nipples but not pain on them. I can be wrong. Everybody is different. I also have a clear face but before my menstruation I break out.
I hope this helps u a bit :)

yes you can get breast pain when you are getting ready for your period
