Question about menstruation after childbirth?!

Question: I had my first child at 19 years old this last july. and she's now about 6 months. I have almost exclusively been breastfeeding and just recently started giving her baby food. I had my first period since before i got pregnant, when she was like 2 months old and it was very light and only lasted about 2 days. Then after that i have not had it until yesterday. therefore, it's been almost 4 months in between them. So I dont know if thats normal because I'm still breastfeeding. But now I have my period again and it's once again very light and it looks darker than usual like brownish. Why is it this color?

It is very normal, you may not get your normal period until after you stop breastfeeding. You should however, use another form of birth control if you do wan to get pregnant. The mini pill will not decrease your milk production like the combo pills but depending on your views of abortion, the mini pill while breastfeeding, allows conception, but not implantation.

Best thing is to talk to your doctor:

HOWEVER........
It is possible that you are only ovulating on one side, or at least every other cycle (you could still be using both ovaries, just not as often). One way to confirm whether or not you are ovulating is to use temperature charting and/or other natural family planning methods to confirm an ovulation date. This would give you more information about how your body is working right now. As long as you are having a period at least every 3-4 months, it's not usually something to worry about.

it's very normal if you have been breast feeding. Breast feeding can supress ovualtion and menstration.............although it does not always. That is why they tell you to not rely on it for birth control. SOme women get their periods soon after birth and some not until they stop breast feeding.

It's brown because it is old blood, but if it not a heavy flowing cycle could it be that you are pregnant again? If not some women adjust differently after child birth I dint have a real period after having mine until like the 3rd or 4th month. I too breastfeed, that does impact your body's pattern.

i think it's normal. ur body is going back to it's normal stage and plus if ur or were breast feeding, remeber that u need that milk back, that probably explains the different color. i suggest u don't worry. but if it continues like that for a couple more months then c ur gyno.
Good luck and congrats for the new baby...

By the time the blood comes out it's usually old. Old blood has that color. Everyone has a different reaction to childbirth. Some don't get their periods for a few months, some people have theirs for a few months straight. Depends on the person.

YES, IT IS GOING TO BE VERY IRREGULAR. ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU HAD NOT BEEN HAVING ONE LONG PRIOR TO GETTING PREG. WHEN YOU BREAST FEED THAT DELAYS YOUR PERIODS. IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME FOR YOUR BODYS HORMONES TO GET INTO BALANCE. JEN
