Is Douching Healthy?
Simply stated, the answer is "No."
According to a study published by the American Journal of Public Health, douching may reduce a woman's chance of becoming pregnant during a particular month by approximately thirty percent.

Regular vaginal douching changes the delicate chemical balance of the vagina and can make a woman more susceptible to infections. Douching can introduce new bacteria into the vagina which can spread up through the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes. Researchers have found that women who douche regularly experience more vaginal irritations and infections such as bacterial vaginosis, and an increased number of sexually transmitted diseases.

Furthermore, regular users of vaginal douches face a 73% greater risk of developing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) -- a chronic condition that can lead to infertility, or even death, if left untreated. Bacterial vaginosis and PID can have serious adverse affects on pregnancy including infections in the baby, labor problems, and preterm delivery.

For these reasons, douching is no longer recommended as a safe or healthy way to routinely clean the vagina. The only safe and healthy way to clean the vagina is to let the vagina clean itself. The delicate chemical balance of the vagina is very sensitive and easily disrupted by routine vaginal douching.

you can get infections from douching. The vagina cleans itself and its better to let it to do it the way nature intended for it to do it.

yes I've heard that as well, I think its just because your vagina is self cleaning so anything you do thats unnatural is gonna cause irritation . I think as long as you're not putting soap way up there when you're showering your fine, you don't need any soap there, because that too upsets your natural balance

I think that might be ok. I don't think the water would get up as far as it does from douching.

Douching is more than letting the shower rinse you out. I wouldn't think that what you are doing is harmful.
peace

Unless prescribed by a doctor, douching is not a good thing. A healthy vagina keeps itself clean by sloughing off old cells, maintaining a healthy pH balance, and a certain amount of normal, friendly organisms. It's cleaner than your just-brushed mouth. Putting acidic things like most douches or basic (alkaline things) like soap solutions makes your vagina freak out, try and readjust its pH and organisms, and makes you more inclined to infections... which make you smell, and make you douche more. It's a vicious cycle.

It's never going to be a rose garden. Vaginas smell like vaginas. But all it needs to do to be cleaned is to be washed on the outside with mild soap and water and patted dry. A little water getting up there shouldn't be a problem. This is true even on your period. If you've got a *bad* smell, that can indicate an infection, which should be seen by a doctor.
