Novasure-Hysterscopy-D&C - Post Op Pain Question/Comments?!

Question: 6 days ago I had a Uterine Polyp removed by inserting hystercope and doing a D&C. I also had the Novasure procedure at the end of the surgery. A few years back I had a D&C and the only difficulty in recovery for me was the after effects of General Anestesia. So I assumed this time would be the same however in addition to still feeling a bit "hung over" from being knocked out (body real sensitive to it), I have a feeling of discomfort at the opening of my vag. Goes from feeling like pressure to someone pinching it. to feeling like strings are being pulled. Also have a bloated feel to my abdomen (period is due next week-hoping I don't get; nurse told me 94% do not get their period anymore). I phoned doc's office today. He said these sound like common side effects of Novasure and to call in 2 days if no improvement has been felt. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS SORT OF DISCOMFORT/ETC??? THANKS IN ADVANCE

The symptoms you are experiencing sound normal. The bloated feeling may be from fluid used during the hysteroscopy. The other feelings may just be after effects of the procedure itself. During a Hysteroscopy (hyster=uterus, oscopy=to look into), the cervix is dilated slightly so the scope can be inserted (for the doctor to see), the end of the cervix is grabbed with an instrument to give the doctor something to hold on to. When the scope goes through the cervix into the uterus fluid is used to aid in visualization. The lining and and the inside of the uterus is examined. Then the endometrial ablation procedure starts (the Novasure). After taking measurements of the uterus (length and width), the Novasure device essentially burns the endometrial lining of the uterus until it reaches the myometrium (middle layer of muscle of the uterus). The watts of power is determined by the Novasure machine, and time is determined by the machine based on impedance. It usually only takes 1-2.5 minutes. The charred lining will slough off. According to the product representative, most women may experience a cessation of menstrual cycles.

All that being said, give it a few more days and you should be feeling much better. You had a lot more done during this surgical procedure than you did last time. Be patient.
