If you think it's a yeast infection, eat yogurt twice a day for about 3 days. If you don't like yogurt, you can buy acidophilus in the refridgerated section of the health food isle. Read the instructions on the bottle. Yogurt has acidophilus, which balances out your digestive system and can clear up a yeast infection naturally and (usually) quickly. A yeast infection differs from a bacterial infection in that your urine will be less clear and you will itch like a mo fo.

If you think it's a bacterial infection like a urinary tract infection, get pure cranberry juice (it must be pure, not juice drink or mixed juice, natural food stores carry it) and take a shot glass full in the morning and at night for about 3 days. It's crazy sour stuff, but it has a certain type of acid that will clear out your system of the bad bacteria that cause UTI's. A UTI won't itch like a yeast infection. Instead, you will have pain when you urinate, and pain when you're just sitting there too.

Yeast infections can be caused by taking antibiotics, because they kill the good bacteria that keep the yeast in balance. Sometimes you can get a yeast infection randomly, just because your normal yeast/bacteria balance just gets out of whack for no particular reason.

UTI's commonly happen when you introduce bacteria into your system that it's not used to. Wiping from back to front is a common cause, among others. Like yeast infections, UTI's can also crop up seemingly at random due to an internal imbalance between friendly/unfriendly bacteria.

Pain and itching can be caused by other things too, so of course, if you have access to a doctor, you will want to see a doctor right away. Best not to take chances. But if you don't have access to a doctor, these are some natural remedies that work for these common ailments. Good luck!

See a doctor. Yahooers can not give you clear enough answers.

It sounds like you have bacterial vaginosis. You have to get something prescribed.

You're right, you do need to see a dr. In the meantime, it sounds like a yeast infection. There are tests to tell if they are yeast or bacterial so buy one of those first and then if it's a yeast infection you can use Monistat 3 or 7 to clear it up....but that doesn't mean you don't go see a dr. Go just for your peace of mind concerning your periods, if not for anything else.
I wish you well.

I have had a yeast infection and Bacterial vaginitis before. I don't know if this could be either or the two.

Bacterial vaginitis is simply an irritation of the vaginal canal, and doesn't mean any specific kind of bacteria was identified. It could well be trichinosis, as that is what it usually sounds like complaint wise, except for the itching which usually also accompanies it. It could be caused by any number of bacteria, though, and only the exam can give you a final answer.

Some advice in regards to prevention:
Stick to the all cotton undies, avoid pantyhose, and make sure you launder it all in hot water and bleach. Those that can't do a hot wash should be microwaved damp to be sure you kill all the little buggers hanging around.

It very likely could be just a routine bacterial infection, which can be easily taken care of with a round of antibiotics or a cream.
