Mirena IUD?!

Question: Has anyone on here used the Mirena IUD as a form of birth control? Am thinking about getting it and wanted any feedback from people who have used it in the past.

I have had mine for little over a year and I love it. I have not gained any weight, no mood swings, break outs, & no periods. Its good for 5 years & can easily be taken out sooner if you want.

I will warn you that when it gets inserted that they clamp your uterus and it is really painful (no one told me so I didn't expect it). Expect cramps for a few hours up to 2 days after getting it inserted. The spotting will be fairly random for the first few months but will probably go away completely in 4-6 months. Ask the doctor to cut the strings pretty short, that way your husband does not feel like he is getting stuck during sex.

Check out www.merina-us.com for more information on it.

Personally I haven't used it, but I sure have heard horror stories. I've heard nothing good. I've talked to women who have had horrible pain and lost part or all of their uterus. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot womb!
peace

I had it placed aprx. 6 months ago. I've heard of many women having it placed and having no issues with it at all..personally though..when they tell you you'll have cramping after it's placed-they are not lying..it was very painful for me. I spotted the whole time I've had it in so far..except a month and then I had my period and then the spotting came back. I'm actually going to my doctor tomorrow to see about getting on hormonal pills (she said to possibly balance everything out) I'm honestly also going to discuss having it taken out. I've had cramping like I've never had before and pains (had ultrasounds to make sure it's been placed correctly and they say it has).
They recommend if you are interested in getting the Mirena that they prefer to place it after you've given birth so it's less painful for you (they insert into your cervix and it's more difficult to place it into women that have not had a child(ren) ) and they also want to make sure you are in a stable relationship with one partner because after it's placed- you are more likely to get certain STDs if your partner has it.
I don't mean to scare you out of it by telling my issues with it..I want you to know that there are many women out there that do not have issues with it. Just do your research and talk with your doctor to decide if it's best for you.

I have just had the mirena removed after 5 yrs at first it was great and my periods were very light but slowly over time I had terrible pms and the mood swings were unbelievable I would shake become paranoid and had self harming thoughts I have never suffered like this before I know mine is quite an extreme reaction and for many women it has worked problem free.

I have it and very happy going to 4yrs. The first day you go in its like if your going for a pap smear, you will feel like a pinch on your uterus. They numb the opening of the uterus when they open it to insert the IUD but other than that you don't fell anything. Well I didn't. Doctors explains everything and give you brochures. There's going to be some mild cramping and very little bleeding that same day. No worries if am going to get pregnant. I don't have no complaints and I recommended it to some friends and they got it. For the first periods it will be heavy and will be back to regular. You don't fell it in you or when you having sex it docent bother at all. My plans are staying with it for one more year and get pregnant again. To take it off is the same. Hopefully this is helpful and I do recommend getting it you have you a problem with forgetting to take the pill..

Yes I have been using he mirena for almost 3 years now. I got mine put in after i had my son. I love it, i dont have to worry about anything plus no periods. Sometimes i may spot , and i will stilll have some cramps but i would recommend it.
