What effect can increased breastfeeding have on the menstrual cycle?!
Question: Ok, I have some questions here. When my son was 7 months he stopped nursing for a month because of teething. He resumed at 8 months. I had started to taper it off, but when we all went to Pakistan to visit my inlaws and let them see their grandchildren, he increased it. Now he is almost only nursing throughout the day and even rejects regular milk. My cycle has also become heavier and more sporadic. Can the two be linked? And can ovulation still be suppressed?

Breastfeeding can have an impact on your cycle; breastfeeding will suppress ovulation for up to six months reliably enough to be considered a natural form of birth control. The scientific articles on the subject say that ovulation is only reliably suppressed until your period resumes after the baby's birth, so it's unlikely that your ovulation is still suppressed.
