Question: ok ladies , here it is , i am 28 yrs old and have had 3 c-sections , i now have an iud inside , the "paraguard" it has been there for appx 3 yrs in sept. now the 1st 2 yrs i didnt have a problem , but for the past yr this has been hapening on and off, i am having very irregular bleeding and when i say that , it is a big understatement ,it started by bleeding 2x a month instead of one , kinda like having 2 periods only one was very light and short , and then it stopped for awhile , then it started to be very unpredictable , where i can be bleeding for 3 days and stop for 3 days , and stay like that , so bad that i could not really tell a real period, now it is so bad that i bleed every day , i have a constant 24/7 period , and i have been to the dr who tells me that its normal , of course they she didnt see how bad it can be , it stopped for that day (go figure) what i did notice tho is when i am in a relationship and having sex it's not so bad, as when i am not sexually active !

I have the same IUD. I had bleeding so bad the month after I had it put in that I was wrapped up in towels in the ER covered gushing blood and I kid you not they gave me a pack of diapers and sent me home. I seriously was wearing 2 tampons, 2 pads, and diapers and it would only last an hour or so. I almost just took everything off and just sat in the bath tub naked and just let it run down the drain. I kept calling my doctor who just kept saying take some ibuprofen. What is wrong with these doctors?? No one would help me. I had twins by c-section and had 3 prior vaginal births. The bleeding finally stopped after 3 days. My periods are pretty stable now but some months they are lighter, and some are really heavy. If y ou are now bleeding 24/7 then I think you need to demand an ultra sound from your doctor to make sure the IUD did not puncture through your cervex. You may even have an infection. I know it sucks but you may have to see another doctor. I no longer see the doctor who was not concerned enough to give me treatment. No one is a bigger advocate of your health then you and if you dont speak up then no one will. So demand care and make sure your ok. Messed up periods is one thing, constant bleeding is a whole different story. You need treatment. Good luck.
I think you need the IUD changed. Bleeding is usually an indication that it isnt working properly anymore. I dont know for sure though.
I have heard of some people having problems like this with their iuds after a few years. Most reported a cessation of problems upon removal. If you can't stand it anymore, have it taken out.
is sounds lke the copper is breaking down which means it needs to be replaced ... the only last 3-7 years either that or it could be dislodged or pererated ... you need to see your GP either way because any of these senarios can lead to pelvic inflamatory disease
