Post Pregnancy Breast Pain....??!

Question: I had my daughter Lillian a little over four months ago. I started out breast feeding but soon had to stop because it was too painful. I never experienced the burning or hot sensation of my milk coming in or anything like that.

My question is a month or so after I had my daughter I stared experience extreme sharp pains in my left breast every time I would laugh, cough, sneeze, or yell loudly.

I'm very concerned but I do not want to spend the money just yet on a doctor. I am very poor and I have no insurance.

Relax, I think you just have mastitis. It's the inflammation of the breast caused by bacterial infection through damaged nipples and most often caused by breastfeeding. It also sometimes involves the discharge of a pus.You could still breastfeed if you want to for the pus does not discharge when your baby feeds. I do however suggest that you please consult your doctor for the proper medications to treat this infection.

This could be an issue with a nerve being damaged (giving an example only). The only way to know for sure what's going on is to see a doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think it is. Because of not having insurance I would recommend checking with the city health dept to see if they offer a free women's clinic that can evaluate this situation further. If not, I would recommend checking to see if there's a Medical School close by that might be able to help.
