Does anyone else feel really violated when you go for your pap?!

Question: It's seriously just the most annoying thing ever! Sitting there in silence listening to the sounds of rubber gloves & the metal clamp cranking open. That $hit hurts too! Violated....like we have no control over it because we are required to get one yearly, yeah! Violated like someone has done something illegal against my will, well actually....yeah there too! It definitely sucks! I'm 37 weeks pregnant right now & seriously had a phobia of those exams prior to this....now it's like, anybody else want a peek? I'm scared to have everyone in the room checking it out during delivery! Even wierder I think is to have your mom there. I mean, I want her there but I don't, because I don't want her in the room when I'm spread wide eagle, ya know!

oh yes.. every time. it never really gets any easier.

Nope. It's just business. And for sure, I don't want cancer.

Oh no I enjoy every visit. Come on!

Yes its really weird and uncomfortable.

Yeah, especially when they say something like, "Honey, your gonna have to spread those legs a little more, how does your husband deal with this"

Well, my husband is not sticking a huge metal/plastic thing in me to spread me apart.

Transport your thoughts to a happy place. There is NO OTHER WAY to get through it.

By the way, do not tolerate inappropriate comments or actions from your doctor. It is completely unprofessional and unethical. Stop him and walk out if he does, and REPORT the offence to his licensing body.

Just wait until you get pregnant & have to have the sonogram thingy pushed up there & wiggled around so they can get a look at the baby.
Now that is fun...

No, not really. The doctor is there to help me, and keep me healthy, they are doing me a favour.

I always have a female doctor - she has to go through the same procedure as often as I do!

I actually found that it became a lot less embarrassing after I'd been sexually active for a while.

omg i went and got my first one last november omg ewwwie it hurt so bad. i told my bf an he wanted to whoop my ob/gyn's *** dude if i wasnt concerned about my health i would punched his *** and left the room in that lil paper apron thingie

I used to, but I find it easier each time. I think the key is to find a doctor you are comfortable with. My doctor is a woman and she's fairly young. She can relate personally to me about health concerns and has never made me feel uncomfortable. In fact, she has always tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible (given the situation). My mother and my sisters have her as well and they feel the same way. Don't look at it as violating. They are there to make sure you are healthy.

I agree with Suki. I don't feel violated because I trust my doctor and know that what they are doing is in the best interest of my health. If you feel violated, maybe you need to switch to a different doctor. Ask your friends if they like their doctor and try to switch.

oh yes dosent everyone?? having babies, pap tests .....i hate being a woman

No- Just had my first one a few weeks ago, w/ a male doctor too. And I hope you don't. It's very important to get checked for cervical cancer. For doctors, it's just business. They see it every day, to them it's like inspecting a throat or any other organ. They're taking care of you, in no way should you be feeling violated unless you had a prior devastating experience.
