I have PCOS too. It's an awful diease that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Left untreated your symptoms will worsen CONSIDERABLY! Make sure you don't decide to ignore your disease or you will regret it in the long run like I have. This can cause diabetes, baldness, massive weight gain, hair growth on your face and chest, acne, halting of your period, infertility, on and on......

Are you on Metformin? If not, ask about it. It helps GREATLY!

Are you on birth control pills? They may help regulate your hormones and control the symptoms from the cysts.
There are other medications which can help with the other symptoms or with losing weight.

Best of luck, hope you feel better!

Here's a site where you can find more info on PCOS:

Hmm...I've also been diagnosed with PCOS. It might help you, to begin with, not to think of it as a disease. It's more a set of symptoms that you'll have to manage over the years.

Probably the best thing you can do for yourself (besides eating right and exercising, which you're already doing), is to make sure that you have a good ob/gyn who you trust. Not everyone with PCOS is tired and weak all the time. Your doctor should run tests and rule out other possible causes for what you're experiencing.

There are a lot of treatments for women with PCOS, and every woman is unique in her response. I feel best when I'm on birth control, and I've had good luck with Yaz. For me, birth control minimizes acne and facial hair and cuts down on the mood swings. On the other hand, birth control doesn't control insulin resistence or energy levels. BUT...I find that a good diet helps best with that. I have far better days when I have a breakfast that includes protein, for example, and I try not to keep food with a lot of refined sugar in my kitchen because once I start eating it, I crave it.

If you google PCOS, you'll find a lot of great PCOS online communities. I like these much better than the books, because the books don't always reflect the most recent PCOS knowledge and they don't give you the set of experiences that an online community can give. You might also try talking to any female relative you have who has PCOS and find out what her experience has been. She might have tips on what treatments will work best for you.
