I have Hpv and abnormal pap smear?? help?!
Question: I had genital warts that presented when i was pregnant, I had them frozen off and havent had them again. I just had a pap smear and they said i have abnormal cells and should get tested in 12 months. Is that a long time to wait?? is it likely i will get cervical cancer?? my mum had it at 21 I am now 22?? please help im scared

i just got my results from a biopsy after having a colposcopy back in august..i have an abnormality in the cells. i asked what they were he said cin1 which is the lowest grade PRE cancerous cells, i have to have a smear in 2 months as id be due one then anyway, but it will be almost 12 months since i originally went to my gp. so i would say this is normal. you should go back and ask exactly what type of abnormality you have. but bear in mind that pre cancerous cells can revert back to normal so theres no need to panic. easier said than done i know.
as for the hpv, as the answer above says it is only a few sorts that can cause cervical cancer. It also doesnt mean you will definately get it. if you smoke you have a 50%increased chance of getting cervical cancer, however cervical cancer is one of the easiest cancers to treat as it is usually caught so early.
i know how worried you are , i was in a real panic when i first had the news i had "abnormalities" but once i knew exactly what that meant i relaxed, because its a long term thing, you will have at least yearly smears from now on for a few years so there is no point worrying excesively for all of that time.
This is a long time to wait. You need to see another doctor. cervical cancer is agressive so you need to get on top of this...good luck
If I were as concerned as you, I would get a second opinion. That's what they are for. You probably are fine to wait a year, or the doc wouldn't have said so. However that didn't appease you, so go get a second opinion to rest your fears. He didn't say pre-cancerous, he said abnormal, which could mean a lot of things. However, you need to not worry for a whole year.

usually things like pregnancy wil bring this out, as thy can lie dormantfor years. as for the dysplaysia, this is a pre-cursor to cancer. yes this is very typical with HPV and no it doesn't necessarily mean you'll get cancer. that depends on how early they caught(the docs), and the key to preventing cancer is having the annual pap that thay told you to get. this way, in the event that cancer is present, they stand a better chance of cathing it in the early stages. i also want to point out that HPV is not a sexually transmitted disease, but rather, a sexually transmitted virus. it is as common as the common cold. and while promiscuity is a major factor in developing it, that also means promiscuity on the part of sexual partners. thus, you could have caught it the first time you ever had sex, if your partner had multiple partners. also, as i said this is a virus and very common. probably half the pop. has it and doesn't even know. there are over 100 different kindssome cause the warts, approx. 15 cause cervical cancer and with the rest, it just goes away on it's own. thus the reason most people don't know they have it and probably have had it for years.
I had an abnormal pap, and they scheduled me right away for a colpo, call your doc and ask if you can have one done
basically they snip a tiny piece of your cervix and send it in to be looked at. mine came back with abnormal cells ( HPV) which I'm assuming your definitely will too.
I waited only THREE months for another appointment and my ab. cells turned to SEVERE within that time..
