Interstitial cystitis (AKA: Painful Bladder Syndrome)?!

Question: hi, have any of you women been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome? if yes, what was the course of treatment your urologist recommended? how long did you deal with the bladder/urine infections? how long were you on antibiotics and pain meds? i had a bladder biopsy done and it came back clear from cancer (thank God) but i was diagnosed with this condition. i've also had recurring bladder infections and urine infections. i'm just frustrated and in pain and sick. please help as soon as you can, thanks!

Aww, I'm assuming you had the cystoscopy with hydro-bladder distention? That's a fun one to wake up from. There is a new drug out there for the treatment of IC, I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head but it has been said to work miracles for people with IC. The Hydro-Bladder distention is also considered a treatment for IC and can help with the pain. Something else to consider is diet. Acidic foods tend to irritate the bladder lining and cause more discomfort. There are many websites dedicated to this special IC diet, so I would check out Yahoo or google to see if you can find anything. I hope I could help a little bit. I wish you my best!

I havent been diagnosed with that type however I used to suffer with severe bladder infections on a regular basis.
Things that may be able to help you are watching the types of food you eat. Cut out acidic foods & drinks (eg citrus) everytime you have intercourse make sure you go to the toilet afterwards & drink plenty of water. Ural sachets are an alkaline powder that you mix with water which also helps & if you are sexually active.. make sure your partner is treated too!

I understand your dilema, but atleast you are able to get medicine for you illness. Try having polycystic kidney disease and deal with that one. There is no cure. not treatment, and it will eventually take over my kidneys, and my liver and kill me. The only alternate methods of a cure are dialysis, or kidney transplant. but if your at all like me in the financial state of affairs. You can't afford to have treatments of this nature, and so you are dieing a little bit everyday. I m in pain everyday now, and it don't get better, but can't get to a doc. and a doc can't really help me anyways. So you just deal with it the best you can, and don' t let it stop you from doing what you need to do. enjoy what times you have, for tomorrow you may just be dead. don't worry. just enjoy life the best you can.

I have IC and have had it for about 30 years now. I have a very severe case though. You can find all the info you need at the ICN Network website. The first thing I recommend is trying the IC diet and seeing a good urologist. Goodluck.
