Can she start a new pack of the pill if she is on her period?!

Question: My missus needs some advice, I wonder if someone could help?

She has finished a pack of her standard pills and, because it took 4 or 5 days for her to come on her period (normally only a couple of days) she is still on her period and wondering whether or not to start the next pack after 7 days as normal or wait till her period is finished?

Any advice kindly appreciated.

She should start the next pack as normal after seven days. This is very important; extending the pill-free break is one of the most common ways of messing up and falling pregnant while on the pill. If she doesn't start the next pack on time her protection from pregnancy is compromised. It doesn't matter if she's still on her period--she needs to start the next pack after seven days or less.

She should start the next pack on the day she is supposed to, whether she is still bleeding or not. Otherewise she will run the risk of being unprotected next month.
