I am determined to take my IUD out TONIGHT, any help will be apreciated?!

Question: I moved to a very, very small town last year, I have tried to make a doctors appointment for the last 3 months, to get my IUD removed. Once again today, my doctor was not available. Her next appointment is in May. I want to have another child this year. I am determined to take my IUD out today, my husband will be doing the "hands on work". I am looking for some tips, from anyone who has any kind of experience. I appreciate the fact that a lot of people will advise against doing this, but the fact remains, that I am going to do it, so please, only helpful comments, not negative, or telling me how crazy I am. Thank you.

Please consider that if you were to convince a healthcare practitioner that you require immediate attention due to side effects of your IUD, an ER/GYN doctor could remove it.

This episode of discomfort could be tonight before you resort to removing it yourself.

Here are two links you may find helpful. I encourage you to research your decision and the alternative.

If this does not appeal to you, make sure the tweezers or cotton swabs and your husband's arms are extremely, extremely clean and be ready to get medical attention immediately if things go awry.

I encourage you to call your doctor's office on Monday saying you've removed it yourself and think you've got an infection, because you're at extremely high risk of injuring your "equipment" beyond repair or capability of becoming pregnant in the first place.

Best of luck!

Okay, I won't tell you you're crazy. I WILL tell you that taking it out yourself could be very dangerous, and could possibly render you sterile. But go ahead-- try it anyway. You did say you're determined.

From Planned Parenthood's website:

Women should never try to remove IUDs themselves or ask nonprofessionals to do it for them. Serious damage could result.

In rare cases, IUDs become embedded in the uterus and cannot be easily pulled free. In these cases, the cervix may have to be dilated and a surgical tool forceps may be used to free the IUD. A local anesthetic is used for such removals. In very rare cases, surgery becomes necessary. Women may have to be hospitalized for removals that require incision.

One other thing-- what medical plan do you have, that you can't see a doctor for five months?! What's going to happen if you get pregnant and you want to see a doctor?

Good luck!! I would be afraid to do damage and hurt my chances of ever having a child. If I had to I would drive to another town to have a Dr remove it.

I guess he would just grab both strings and pull.

I had an iud. When i went to the doc he told me to lay on the table and he just pulled it out by the string with no tools or anything.and also the doc that put it in is usually the only one who will take it out. i went to local er to have mine removed and they refused.

call and find another dr or else go to the emerge or travel to the next town. Are u really willing to risk it? Yah I mean it soudns like agreat idea but think of the consequences
