25 year old, married woman getting the Gardasil vaccine?!

Question: There was an article about the Gardasil vaccine in my local paper today, and it got me thinking. I just turned 25, so I only have a year left to get it if I want it. Don't get me wrong, I'm happily married, and I'm not concerned about my husband or I having an affair and getting HPV that way. I hope we will always be as happy as we are now. But, there is no certainty about the future. And, god forbid, we do end up divorced for whatever reason or, even worse, he dies (knock on wood), I'll probably want to have sex again with someone at some point. I always had safe sex before, and always would, but HPV can be spread even with condom use.

I just don't know if I should do it or not. My husband would understand I'm sure if I wanted it, but our insurance (for now) doesn't cover it, so I'd have to pay out of pocket. Times running out, and I'll have to make a choice soon. What do you all think? Is it worth it, or you think I'm being paranoid about the future? Any other married women get it?

HPV carries something like 160 different strains that cause..warts..cervical cancer..and many other things... now let me tell you the scary part... you can contract HPV by shaking somones hand..a door knob.. towels.. toilets...
men normaly dont have symtoms besides warts... so your husband can unknowingly be carrying HPV that causes cervical cancer...
GET IT!!!!!

DO IT

get it!!!!!!! better to be safe than sorry

I'd get it if I was a woman...or if they allowed men to get it.

I would not get it if i was you!

GET IT.
even if he werent to cheat on you, you get hpv through genital warts which he could have given you by oral sex which he could have gotton by sharing a soda with a friend.

get it.

do it, its the only vaccine that protects against the strand that causes cervical cancer. its worth it just for that, even if you never have sex with another man in your whole life

edit: i have heard it costs somewhere in the ballpark of $600

You may want to get it even if you've just had sex with someone else before your husband. It's a good idea. I never really thought about it, but it's true that things happen.

It is recommended for women up to age 26-I think it is a good idea for you to get the shot. Consult with your GYN.

I think you should get it. If you think long term even if you already had the virus this would treat it. Paying for the shot out of pocket will be a lot cheaper then paying for cancer. Plus cancer is so hard on the body and all the treatments I think it worth paying out of pocket.

I really don't think you should get it.

Why?

1. Its too new.
2. NO LONG TERM studies have been done to this vaccine!
3. It is NOT 100% effective!
4. It only MIGHT prevent 4 of the over 100 forms of cervical cancer!
5. It contains carcinogens, which CAUSE cancer!

who knows WHAT side affects and long term issues you may have.

Even if I were in the age range, I'd never get this shot.

I got it and I am 24 and have been with my bf for 4 years and we plan on getting married, but you never know. Your insurance should cover it, mine did at the time it was BCBS, you just have to call them to make sure. I got it at the gyno. FYI though, it hurts like hell. Worst shot I have ever had.
