well i used to have EXCRUCIATING horrible menstrual cramps...and the doctor gave me birth control pills, and now all i get is a bit of discomfort. I pay about 30 bucks a month for the pills and there 21 day packs.
one word--- EXCERCISE!

With my former wife, sex helped her quite a bit. Unfortunately my job requires me to travel a lot, so..... ;>)
Some pills do help. Ibuprophen helps as well as Midol. This may sound crazy but bannanas help so much with cramps. Chocolate helps me personally as well.
Exercise a lot. Before, during, and after. :-)
Heating pad if you are in bad pain.
Go take a really warm shower.
