Period pain and the birth control pill?!
Question: I was just wondering, is the birth control pill meant to reduce everyones cramps, or bring them all to a suitable level.
Because I know people who are on it too reduce pain, but me and my friend, we both never really had pain before, since we started it have a bit of period pain?
Is that normal?
I just figured it brings everyones pain to the same level is that right??

(To the first girl who responded) What?? YOU need to ask your doctor, you have no idea what you're talking about. You will have your period on any kind of birth control you take, even if it's the Seasonel-type where you only have your period 4 times a year. The only way to not have your period is to a) get pregnant or b) go through menopause.
Different people react different ways to birth control. The Pill was designed the reduce the likelihood of pregnancy. One of the side-effects of The Pill happens to be that MOST women notice reduced period pain, which is a common reason to take it. It's not that everyone experiences the same level of pain. It's only that your body reacts differently to the hormones. It also takes a while for your body to fully adjust to the hormones, so that might just be it, too.
the birth control pill, makes u NOT have your period... ask your doc...
and if u take the pill, you wont get any pains or your period.
umm the pill is a hormonal thing so it can give you cramps even if you have never had them before. I don't think it is suppose to give you cramps, it may justy be a side effect If it gets really bad you can talk to your doctor about a different kind. I think Yaz is a good one as far as amount of hormones.
cramps are part of the sytoms.. and birth control.. um.. i know they def reduce ur pain and that u get periods like 4 times a year... i think
Some times they say this is to keep you regular, I'm not sure about the cramp part, do so research, ask google.
It doesn't bring everyone's pain to the same level at all I don't think! It really depends on the brand of pill you are on as to what it does to your cramps, and different pills react in different ways with different people. I was on one pill that made my cramps WORSE than they were before (and I have always had terrible cramps), two that kept them pretty much the same and one that made them better. Overall they are marginally better than when I wasn't on the pill, but they are still bad. Other friends have had different reactions. One friend who had never had even the slightest twinge of pain before was in crippling agony on one brand of the pill. It is just luck/trial and error.
no thats not the case at all - if it has made your period pain worse go back to the doctors as they have different types this one might not agree with you. i cant remember the name of the pill i was on before but it gave me really bad pains in my side when i was on so the dr changed my prescription now my period pain isnt so bad .
if your period pain is the same as before though then this is nothing to worry about as the pill isnt really designed to help period pain its just a side effect and is normally felt by those who have really heavy or really painful periods.
obviously im not a doctor so your best bet would be to discuss it with them.
no that is not normal... that is a side effect.. i'd sudgest stop taking the pill and find a different source to your treatment. i would also sudgest seeing your physician for a different pain med.

No the pill will not control pain. It only control when you have your period and how long you have it. If your having pain talk to your doctor about it.
Every period is different, even in the same girl. Just be grateful you don't have cramps. Stop worrying, you are perfectly normal.

The pill is a generic term for hundreds of different brands. Some brands have higher levels of estrogen and progesterone and some have lower levels. All are meant to prevent pregnancy and most will regulate your period to a window of 21-28 days. If you are fortunate enough, use of the pill will eliminate or drastically reduce the presence of cramps. I have to take a pill with a lower lever of estrogen because the higher levels cause me to have migraine headaches. It does not cause the same effect in my sisters. The pill does not "level" out your pain with the next person. If you are having increased pain due to cramping on the pill, you need to see your doctor and switch pills. There are hundreds of choices. There are some that will limit your period to 4 times a year. This is definitely a decision that you need to have with your doctor. Higher and lower levels of estrogen can cause different side effects in everyone. Keep trying to find the right one. You will eventually.
My gyn. put me on the b.c. pill for obvious reasons and to help
relieve the pain of my cramps.
Are you saying that you have began to experience pain since you started taking the pill? I dont know what to say about that.
Except, how long has it been since you had your first period...
