Tracking my Period?!

Question: I'm 12 and i got my period earlier today. i marked that on my calendar (a book had suggested it)

what i'm wondering is this- Seeing that I'm young and this is my first year of having my period, how can i tell when I'll get it again? Will there be a time when I don't have to wear a pad? Because If I don't know when it's coming i'll be wasting A LOT of pads and it will be uncomfortable.

Also- what would you suggest to relieve cramps? I have a very active and busy lifestyle. I do dance like 5 times a week and i'm wondering HOW i could wear a pad under my leotard? would it show through? or do you suggest a tampon?

About the cramps- I don't want any medication remedys. Just something easy to do/use

With it being your first year of having your period, it may be a bit irregular for a while, that's normal. Jotting it down on a calendar is a good idea, so when it does start having a regular pattern you can figure it out easily. Just count on it coming around about once a month.

It does differ for everyone, but I usually have little mini cramps and I'm a bit emotional before mine comes around. After a while, you'll start to notice things like that, and you'll know when it's coming.

As for your dancing, it depends on what type of pad you use. They do have thin ones that aren't as bulky and are less noticeable. Tampons though, would be your best bet if you want to be totally discreet. With your cramps, exercise helps them, but it varies from girl to girl. With me, I always have one really bad day on the first day of my period, in which no matter what I do, the cramps won't go away unless I take some super extra strength Midol. The rest of the time I'm fine. But I do know some people who don't cramp at all, so it's different for everyone.

Hope this helps!

Your period comes every 28 days or so. On the days you are not having it wear a pantyliner. Eating bananas, taking a hot bath, and midol relieve cramps. I would start off by wearing pads because you are still new to this. Maybe later you could wear tampons. Good Luck!

um just depends how bad your cramps are. once you get them, you will do just about anything to get rid of them. Ibuprofen or Midol is the best. i wear Always pads, and there is no way anyone would beable to tell that your wearing them. a period cycle is usually 28-31 days. now since this is your first one and you just started it can be irregular. i would shoot for every 4 weeks. so count 4 weeks out from when you just recently started. Around that 4 week mark, carry some pads with you and an extra pair of panties. that way if you bleed and you didn't have a pad on you have a extra clean pair with you. I get the Always pads with the wipes attached, they are great to help you feel clean and fresh all day long! good luck. and congrats

Ok if your cycle is regualr, it should come again in 28 days about. If it isn't regualr, which it may not be for another year, there's really no way of telling.
For cramps use a heating pad or take a hot bath, those will help.
If you wear a thin pad it shouldn't show through. Can you wear shorts over your leotard? That would hide the pad if it does show. If you're feeling brave try tampons, but it takes a few tries to perfect using them.
I was a dancer and I used Always Ultra-Thin pads with shorts over my leotard when I had my period.

Dear Sunny, It is a very good idea, to mark the start of your period on a calender, since for the next half year or so it might not be very regular, if it only just started. After a while, your period will come down to a 28 - 30 -day-cycle, which means, you will have your first day of period after 28 to 30 days and it will last for about 3 - 5 days and for this time you will have to wear a pad or tampon and for the rest of the month this will not be necessary. Just listen to your body, and then you will know if it
