Longer, Bright Red Periods?!

Question: My period is longer, heavy and bright red, a lot of clots, crapping not bad but alittle more than usual. Last month my period lasted 10 days with the 1st 3 days being heavy. The day it stopped my doctor prescribed BCP but I didn't take it because the bleeding stopped. Even when it was slowing down, it was still bright red. My doctor said it's not the color, it's how much blood that would be a concern.

This month, it's been the same so far. Bright red period, heavy but not as heavy as last month but close. A lot of clots, crapping but not that bad. It's been 4 days and I'm waiting for the brownish red blood but it's staying bright red.

Even if my doctor isn't too concern about the bright red, I am and it's freaking me out. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow because something is making my period abnormal.

Any STDs that would cause longer, heavier and bright red periods with a lot of clots? I'm 43. Could this be a sign of menopause?

Any Suggestions?

Thank you,

Bernice

Bernice, you very likely are in peri-menopause. Look it up on the internet. It usually starts about 5-10 years before menopause starts. I also had this and my periods got closer and closer together. I would have very heavy periods, but they didn't last very long, maybe 3 days, but they sometimes were only 14-21 days apart. It was a real bummer, but now I'm 57 and 4 years into menopause and it's all good!
