be physically active (at least 30 min 3 times a week), eat healthy, stay in her ideal bmi (body mass index). tell her not to take hot showers or baths or use the steam room or jacuzzi because that only increases your blood pressure. have her monitor her cholesterol and of course stop smoking if she is. hope this helps

A low sodium low fat low cholesterol diet, increase water intake and regular exercise can help. If that doesn't bring it down enough she may have to see a doctor and be put on medication.

Like they say in the commercials, oatmeal helps. Lots of fruit and vegetables, No salt. Really she should get medication for it, it can be so dangerous. Oh yeah, there are many herbs for that. Go to a health food store and ask the person there what ones they are, I think one is garlic. But most important, NO SALT. Caffeine should be limited.

Probably not much if she won't go to a Dr. Tell her its easy and taking one tiny pill a day might save her life.

Hypertension is usually a symptom like a head ache or fever. She could have any number of diseases like diabetes, hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), kidney problems, heart condition, or even stress. She needs to see a doctor to find out why she's having hypertension. The doctor can order a blood work up to find out the cause of her high blood pressure. Hypertension can be lowered by medication, diet, stress-free environment, etc.

I have hypertension and it was very helpful to get the severity from the doctor first. Ask for alternatives to prescription meds on your visit, a good physician won't just prescribe you something he discuss changes in lifestyle behaviors first before dispensing meds. Hope this helps.

Hypertension...

1. Advice her to take her prescribed medication whenever needed.

2. Low sodium, Low fat diet is good.

3. Make it a routine to check for her cholesterol levels once every month. (Do Blood Chemistry)

4. Do atleast 30mins regular exercise.

5. Do have your own blood pressure tool for you to minotor your mom. =)

6. To prevent ORTHOSTATIC HYPOTENSION, whenever she wakes up in the morning.. let her sit first in bed for a second maybe 2-3 seconds, and then let her dangle her feet.. and then let her stand slowly. =)

Hope this one helps you. Godbless!

A healthy diet and exercise for starters will help. Trying to eliminate some stress will help too (if what I've been told is right). I've also heard that drinking pickle juice helps lower blood pressure but I'm not sure if that's true or not. I happen to know someone that drinks a little every day (ick). Can't say if it helps or not but it's something to consider.
