Help my employees are not getting along!?!

Question: I run an upscale tanning spa and I have 5 girls that work for me.
They are all about 18 to 19 years old. One girl is sturring things up more then anyone else. But never in front of me!
Its really taking a toll on everyones work ethic and I dont want to loose my staff. Any advice?

call a meeting...you need to get whatever is going on out in the open. You also need to let them know that this is a working environment and an open door policy...dont let them run the business, thats your responsibility. let them know whats expected and whats not. nip it in the butt before it gets any worse. if it is one specific employee, then maybe they are not the right fit for the job...maybe cut some hours. either way, you dont want this to get in the way of business or customer service.

alot of times when girls are at that age, they are very mouthy and thnk they know it all. this is a place of work, they are there for one reason and one reason only.

tell them if they don't straighten up you will fire them

Find out the exact details and confront her about it. She may be stirring things up or the other girls may be making up stories about her.

have a group meeting and get everything out at one time . this prevents the behind the back stuff, even if you lose just the one who is stirring things up . it would be worth it , to stop the agrevation and prevent losing the others

you need to sit and have a meeting and tell them that this drama is not appropriate for the work place

It sounds like you know who the instigator is,so deal with her.Be stern, and let her know there will be consequences if she doesn't cease and desist. If she respects you, and values her job she will abide by it.If she doesn't listen, then exercise your right as an employer and dismiss her. It's just that simple. If you don't deal with the problem you could end up losing more than one bad employee, you could lose the good ones too (out of frustration). No body wants a revolving door for new hires in their workplace. It creates confusion, poor production, and worst of all a bad reputation as a business.

No offense, but if you are a good manager, you should have a plan of action in place in case of an employee problem that they know about at the time if hire. Like, talk to them about it, if no change write them up...if still no change suspension, pay decrease or fireing. But basically, you are the boss. You need to be mature and proactive and deal with the problem.
