Birth control vs. parents please help!?!

Question: Okay, so i am nineteen, in college and have been dating the most wonderful guy over a year now. we have sex and have always been safe. i would like to go on the pill for extra security and to ease my pre menstrual symptoms. my parents are strict and since i still live with them and unable to support myself yet, (only a freshman in college), i have to get this on my own.

the problem is that im worried about the possibility of my parents finding it. they are very against the idea of pre marital sex and birth control, even when used for other reason besides being sexually active.
any ideas would be much appreciated!

Your school should have a Health Center.
Have you gotten a pap smear before? If not, your heath center will want to do that, and then they will give you birth control. Alot of student health centers on college campus are very inexpensive, and therefore, don't accept insurance plans anyways. The nuvaring is very simple(thats what i use) and is easy to hide(obviously). You're parents have to live with your decision that you do what you want if they happen to find out!

Get it and hide it, maybe keep it in your car. Or use a different method: depo, or the ring?

You can go to planned parenthood

Do you live in the USA? Can't you just go to Planned Parenthood or a college clinic? I heard they give it out for free.

If not then you'll just have to figure out how to get it without them finding out. You aren't a minor so it shouldn't be too hard. There should be services for college students. You can pay for it and get it off insurance if you really need to keep it secret from them.

just tell them that you are having sex and they should have to learn to live with it, and you just want to be safe about it and you need there help.

get the shot or tell your parents it is for acne treatment...or to regulate your period...to lesson cramps...these are all reasons and they may just bite...

It is unfortunate your parents are so restrictive about it- otherwise I would suggest lying about the reasons and claiming you have terrible period pain/skin/mild blood clotting disorder. Why don't you complain liberally about your pre-menstrual symptoms and ask if they will take you to a gynaecologist. Then if the gynaecologist prescribes the pill- surely they can't complain.

If they refuse, and later find it, you can explain you were on it for the PMS. If they don't believe that, then tell them which would they rather, find out you were taking the pill or were pregnant and thinking about an abortion. Surely you must have some secure places to hide stuff though?

First off, if you do decide to go onto the birth control pill, your parents never have to find out because doctors are NOT allowed to reveal that information to anyone, so you wouldn't have a problem there.

Where your problem may lie may be with your insurance. Some insurance companies automatically take off what they pay right when you pick up a prescription, while other insurance companies want you to send in the bill for the prescription yourself, so that they can send you the cheque for what they cover. I used to have the insurance that automatically paid for it right when I picked up the prescription, but when my dad switched jobs, so did the insurance company and the way it operates. Hiding birth control pills from your parents is easy (although I never had to worry about it)...it's just how your insurance works might be an issue (I am in Canada and therefore have OHIP coverage for dr. visits, etc.)

What you could do if you are scared your parents will find out is go on the depo shot. that way you can go to the doc every three months and have them give you a shot, and you wont have to hide anything. and you wont have to always worry about missing a pill.

Have you checked out planned parenthood? They have top notch doctors, are very safe, and always discrete. They deal with college students all the time and have grants to help make the birth control affordable. They also have many different options when dealing with birth contol to make sure you get what works best with your body. Give plannedparenthood.org a look. And by the way I applaud you for being responsible enough to take the sitiuan into your own hands...

The only way, goes to the planned parenthood or health center in college. You can get a birth control from them. And you can keep them in your purse or hide your dresser. But you're adult now, you're not child anymore. You can do anything you want and not worry about your parent. If I were you, to find roomate nearby college. And you can staying with them. And you can get a part time job to pay your college. Best way for you to do.

Go to planned parenthood.

As for hiding the pills, place them somewhere they'll never be able to look.

With regards to depo, the side affects and health risks are horrible, no matter how good the "once every three months" shot is.
