Don't want to go to doctors?!

Question: I hate my body and don't like anyone else seeing it (except my boyfriend). I'm 16, almost 17. When I turn 18 every year or every 2 years I have to go and get pap smears and breast examens done. What should I do? My mom was asking me if I wanted a female or male doctor but I don't want either. In dressing rooms I change in the showers or restrooms. I'm not obese or over weight or any thing, I just hate my body. What should I do!!!!!????? Whould it be bad if I just didn't go? Would that lower health insurance? Do any other guys or girls know what I am going through?

It is your body so you have the right to make the decision. I feel you on the privacy issue and so I have decided not to get exams done down there. It's my decision to make. If you are at low risk for breast cancer or other female cancers, it may be easy to hold off. There will be trade-offs to going verses not going. For me, only 300 women out of a population of 30 million die each year from cervical cancer - another reason for not going.

Don't let anyone push you into anything. You might want to occasionally go for eye tests, and general health tests, but as a women, I'm totally sick of other people telling me what I need to do in terms of my reproductive health...

Yup, I'm dreading* that day too. But if you think about it, you only see them once a year, and they've seen hundreds of private parts.

i know what you mean.
go for a girl doctor she will make you more comfortable than a man.
and just relax everyone has to go through it.
would you rather get it done regularly and pass?
or once every 10 years and fail and it be to late?

No one likes having those examinations done. But I would much rather prefer a doctor find an abnormality on a routine exam, then not go and find out years down the track that I have advanced inoperable cancer which could have been picked up and treated at an earlier stage. I have had pre-cancerous changes on my cervix before, TWICE, I have been treated and given the all clear. I prefer to go through 2 minor operations now, than a major one years down the track.
It would be bad, and stupid if you skipped these examinations. You can't be ignorant about your health. Doctors have seen it all before.
