Period question!?!

Question: My sister is 12 and she has had her period for over a month. she doesn't take birth control pills or any sort of medication. she also says that she never missed a period. i'm worried that something might be wrong with they way her body is working. is this normal? a lot of people are recommending the "obgyn"... or something like that. i just wanted to know if there's anyway to stop it or if it's ok.

This isn't usually normal in anyone, regardless of their age. I would take her to the doctor.

While her cycle is going to be irregular because she is so young, bleeding for a month straight could indicate something is wrong with her reproductive system. She could have a cyst on her ovary or a hormone problem.

Over a month is a couple weeks too many. Definatley call the doctor. This isn't normal period behavior.

My friend was the same when she was this age she went to the doctor and they put her on birth control pills to keep the periods regular. But everyone is differnt. Theres nothing wrong with going to the doctor just take her to a female that you feel comfortable with.

Take her to the doctor's. There could be something wrong.

If it's her first time than it might be just irregular, but you should definitely take her to a doc and make sure nothing's wrong.

Over a month IS too LONG. Have her mom take her to see the gynocologist. They might just give her a check-up & say it's normal. Or they might give her birth control. Since she's young, she/he will prob. skip the Birth Control. I'm 18 & have had many more serious problems..and my gyno. had other solutions. BC is the last resort.

Well, over a month is a LITTLE bit. I am twelve too, and the longest my period has been is a week. You should check up a with a doctor just in case. You must be a very good sister to have you trust you with this stuff. Good luck! ?, Puss

It will take some time in order for Her cycle and periods to become regular. This can take 1 - 2 years.
