Birth control pills = horrible skin!!?!

Question: I recently (2 months ago) went on ortho tri cyclen lo after having a baby. First time I have ever used them, and all is ok...but my skin has become really, really bad! I have broken out all over my face, much like I did when I was a teenager. (I'm 29) Every morning it seems I have a new pimple =( Is there a pill that is "known" to help your skin? I would use proactiv but I have to budget here w/ a baby...

I have fought acne for a while now and I have found some things help and some don't. I have been on many birth controls and some are supposed to help with acne. I thought ortho tri-cyclen was one of them, but being the low hormone one, it may not help so much. The most effective I took for acne was Ortho Evra (the patch) but I would not suggest that. It puts way higher amount of hormone into your bloodstream and a pill does. But now I am on Yaz and so far, I have been very happy with the results. I still use a face cleaner with salicylic acid in the morning, and at night I put a small amount of cream with benzoyl peroxide in it (Meijer brand $3.99). The benzoyl peroxide is very drying so I only use it on my "T" zone and anywhere else I have a lot of acne. It seems like a lot of work, but it's really not. And I am controlling my acne much better. I usually only get breakouts around menstrating time. I hope this helps.

I was on Yasmin that seemed to clear up my skin. I never broke out with that.

Dianette is a known contraceptive pill that helps ur skin. I was on it for about a year due to my skin, but had to unfortunatly come off it because it began to give me really bad headaches =(

But it worked absolute wonders!! I was completely spot-free whilest on it

My Docs put me on a different one called Marvelon thats ment to help ur skin, thats quite good...i'm still getting the odd spots here & there, but its no where near as good as what dianette was!

The best known pill for helping your skin is called Dianette (in the UK, Dianne in the USA i think). I've been on 3 different pills, 2 of them were meant to be good for acne but they have made me worse too. The first pill i went on made me reak out in 20 spots when i had perfect skin before (now i have to safe for some special peel dermo-something to et rid of scars), trust me change a soon as you can. I really reget trying to wait it out for 2/3 months because my doctor kept telling me too. If your not happy at anytime tell your doctor you want to change and if they say wait- change doctors. My new one lets me change to anything i want at any time... it's great!

I've been on marvelon and Cilest which were good for skin which didn't work for me. Dianette is primarily for acne though and te bc is a bonus. It's obviously a hormonal thing so i doubt proactive would really work anyway. I'm due to start it in a few days but i've heard some really amazing stuff about it (acne wise- other side effects aren't too great)
