Okay, so I'm guessing that you have been trying to get pregnant and can't. Am I right? There are a couple of different ways to do this.
1) HSG. Hysterosalpingogram. Hyster=uterus, salpingo=fallopian tubes, gram=study.
This is done with a radiopaque dye being injected through the uterus and into the fallopian tubes and then observed with Xrays. A narrow tube is inserted into through the vagina and into the cervix of the uterus and then the dye is squeezed in with a syringe.
This can be done while awake in the Radiology Department at a hospital or during surgery in the Operating Room.
2) Chromotubation. Chromo=color, tubation=through tubes.
This is done during a laparoscopy/pelviscopy (pelvis=lower cavity of the body, oscopy=to look into). For a pelviscopy the woman is asleep with general anesthesia, the doctor insufflates the pelvis with gas (carbon dioxide) and then places a scope to see with. Then methylene blue dye mixed with saline is injected through the narrow tube going into the vagina/cervix/uterus. The doctor is looking for the blue dye inside the pelvis. If there is no obstruction of the fallopian tubes then the dye flows from the uterus through the fallopian tube and out at the ovary. If there is an obstruction, the doctor can see where it is, and can perform a tuboplasty to help open it up (in some cases). Sometimes the tube is so badly scarred that nothing can be done to fix it. If that is the case, the doctor will usually recommend invitro fertilization.

Hope this information helps. Ask your doctor about this. It is part of their job to help you understand and be informed about any tests and treatments. Good Luck to you.

do you mean tubal ligation?

is is for a tubal reversal, it is not a bad procedure but i dont recomend getting it reversed it will still be hard getting pregnant again, it could mess things up even worse for you the odds of getting pregnant and it not being a tubal pregnancy are really slim. and if you do get pregnant and it is a tubal they will just end up cutting it all out anyway. dont do it

I had this done several years ago, and don't imagine it's changed that much. You change into a hospital-type gown and lie on an x-ray table that is fitted with stirrups, like the gyno office. You will have a sheet or drape to help you maintain some privacy. Your doctor will have a special dye that shows up on the x-ray screen. The dye syringe is placed at the cervix (entrance of the womb) and the dye is sent into the uterus, and flows up into your fallopian tubes. The doctor can check to see if everything is open and un-obstructed, or if something is blocking the path from your ovaries to your uterus. In my case, the tubes were open, but they discovered a growth on my ovary that was preventing ovulation. That was fixed, and I later had 2 healthy babies. The only discomfort I had was a cramping feeling when they injected the dye. Good Luck!!
