Hi,

The Breast cancer is the uncontrolled malignant growth of cells in the breast tissue.

The exact reason for the cancerous growth of cells is not known. There are certain factors that do not cause cancers by themselves, but make a person more at risk for the development of cancer. These risk factors may be genetic or environmental in nature:

Cancer tends to run in families. The risk for cancer increases for a person if one or more of his family members suffer from the disease.

Genetic predisposition that is, a person may carry genes that make certain normal cells cancerous.

Women who begin menstruating before the age of 12 years or stop after 55 years are more at risk for developing breast cancer.

Women who have not borne children or have had children late in their life (usually after the age of 30) are also more at risk.

Obesity or overweight is a condition that is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer.

Other factors like excessive drinking of alcohol and lack of exercise are also risk factors for breast cancer.

Environmental factors like exposure to harmful radiation, cigarette smoke over a long period of time and pesticides also increases the risk.

In some cases, women who undergo hormone replacement therapy have an increased risk of cancer of the breast.

No!

Absolutely not!!! Small breasted women can get breast cancer too.

that has nothing to do with it. where did she find a cracked up myth like that?

NO its not true.

If your breasts are very dense it might be hard to find anything cancerous, but it does not mean you have a greater chance of getting breast cancer.

thats totally false. I think the only relation to that is being obese. Obese women have big boobs and a higher risk for cancers.

No, the sizeof your breasts have nothing to do with breast cancer. Ask your doctor.

No. It does make it harder to throughly exam your breasts monthly. But size doesn't have anything to do with your chances of getting breast cancer.

possibly, because there's more fat for the cancer to attack

Well, listen to your mother. She's right. I'm 24 and a DD, I've already gotten my first Mammogram. Cancer runs in my family. Two aunts had it before they were 35.

Not true. The size of your breasts has no bearing on whether or not you get cancer.

NO your mom is 100% wrong. That is a dumb thing to say. You have a higher chance of getting it IF you have a family history of it (like your aunts, sisters, mother all had breast cancer).

This all depends on whether you have large breasts because you are overweight or if you are just a small/average sized woman with large breasts. Some studies suggest that obesity is a risk factor when we are talking about breast cancer.....If there is a risk, rest assured that it is a small risk.

When we do mammograms, we have two different sized films. From my experience, half of our breast cancer patients require the small film, and half require the larger sized film....

"Does having large breasts make me more susceptible to breast cancer?
Scientists once thought that large breasts might be more prone to developing malignant (cancerous) tumors, but that idea has never been proven by research. Being overweight, however, does increase your risk, and when you're overweight you tend to have larger breasts. So if your breasts are large because you're more than 20% over your ideal weight, it would be a good idea to shed a few pounds."

"Obesity is a well-known risk factor for breast cancer after menopause, but it also appears to help protect women from developing the disease earlier in life."
