Any good home remedies for UTI's?!

Question: I know you can drink cranberry juice, but is there anything else? I only drink water, I don't drink any tea, soft drinks, etc. I prefer NOT to take antibiotics for many reasons, so I would only like to take them as a last resort. Any input/ideas?

Sure, there's tons. Go to Wild Oats or another natural store and check in the herbal section. Goldenseal root (tea, 1 tsp herb to 1 cup water) or ulva ursi (tea, 2 tsp to 1 cup water) are helpful. Drink plenty of water, and if you're drinking cranberry juice, don't get the sweetened kind.

As always, prevention is the best cure, so urinate after intercourse and take prophylactic cranberry pills daily. Try taking a calcium citrate/magnesium citrate vitamin daily too.

And, obv., if it doesn't get any better, go see a doctor, k?

The best so far is cranberry juice or cranberry caplets (which really look like horse pills). However, these more help "prevent" a UTI rather then treat it. Try staying away from caffeinated or carbonated beverages, which can irritate the bladder.

And butterfly... 3 comments below me, if you are a "medical assistant", how come you can't spell?

Buy some AZO; it gives you temporary relief and I think the ingredients are mostly natural. Can be found at any store, including Wal*mart, Target, and most drug stores.

I would check out a nutrition store. They carry cranberry tablets and other homeopathic remedies.

I am a health care professional.

A UTI is nothing to play around with, they can become very serious and can cause some damage.

Cranberry is a great preventative measure, but it will not cure a UTI.

I highly recommend seeing your physician. I have had a UTI before, and it was so painful, but as soon as I took those antibiotics it felt better QUICKLY.

cranberry pills & uristat

yogurt.....but you need to go to the doctors...becuase you knwo what can happen.. Im a medical assistant and know this stuff....that alone..the cranberry juice and yogurt isn't enought. you need antibiotics......CUZ THE INFECTION can get soooo bad that you go thru alot of pain and get KIDNEY failure...or a kidney infection sooo bad that they have to put a painful stent in ur urethra....or you loose your kidneys and have to have a colostomy bag (a piss bag) haning off the side of you for the rest of your life...no lie...... so go to the doc...
