How often are you changing the pads? It's essential that sanitary pads, panty liners, tampons, etc.. be changed at least every 3-4 hours. Also, you may be using "deodorized" pads and that often causes a problem.

However, since this rash is present and has been a problem of some duration it's important that you bring this matter to the attention of your family doctor.

Until your condition has been diagnosed by your doctor, I would strongly urge that you *not* try tampons, as both tampons and sanitary pads are comprised of similar materials and you don't want to create an internal condition.

Toilet paper is never a good replacement as it is designed to break down quickly when moistened, and that can create additional problems in the genital area.

I would suggest that until you see your doctor, create a few "sanitary cloths" for yourself from terrycloth (wash cloths are good) -- 100% cotton is best. You can use them as a "liner" on top of a regular pad, that way the pad itself won't come in contact with your skin and you're extra protected from leaks.

Sanitary pads as we know them have only been on the market in the past 60+ years-- Women in some foreign countries and even our great-grandmothers used homemade sanitary "cloths"... so it's not that unusual.

EDIT: Using tampons does *not* clog your vagina with the blood. Tampons are SUPER highly-absorbent and all the blood that has been released over a period of hours will be removed when the tampon is removed. Whether you use tampons or pads... one isn't better or worse than the other-- it's just a matter of personal preference. And never use either one for longer than 3-4 hours without changing!

Good Luck, and take care.

tampons

Unscented tampons? You can also get pads without detergents and perfumes in them so you don't break out. Maybe try a different brand. It's kind of like a baby who is allergic to a certian brand of diapers, it gives them diaper rash.

It may be that the pads you got are scented, maybe you could try other brands, or some that you are sure are unscented. Or try tampons. If your not sure talk to your doctor about other alternatives to pads or birth control. Good luck.

are you using scented pads? if you are, that can be the problem. try some without the deoderant if that's the case. toilet paper is no good; it gets clumpy and can fall out and get pretty embarassing. just use tampons, they work better anyway.

You will have to find an all natural, hypoallergenic pad. The pads you are using probably have perfumes/latex in them. Read the labels. You could probably find the special pads at a health food store or you could switch to tampons.
A friend of mine's baby was allergic to all diapers until she found one that was hypoallergenic by reading a lot of labels.

You forget about tampons-they absorb the blood and it doesn't clog up your vag.

Unscented pads like Always will give you a better feeling.

If you have been using scented pads, that is probably what is wrong. They make pads without a scent, so you might want to try those. If you have been using unscented, then you might have a rash because you are not getting enough air. Wear cotton underwear when you have your period, so your vagina will be more exposed to air. If none of these work, then you might want to use re-usable cotton pads. They are made of cotton with a cover just like your clothes. They absorb the same way disposable pads do, but you can put them in the washing machine to clean them, and then use them again. There are several wed sites where you can get more information. One of the best is www.moonpads.com. You will find out everything you need to know there, and where you can buy them. Hope this helps! ;P
