What does a Gynecologist exam feel like?!

Question: I have never been to the gynecologist before even though I am well over the recommended age. It's because I am terrified of doctors; I have extreme anxiety and end up fainting and feeling like I am going to die/can't breathe...I am wondering how bad a gynecologist visit really is, is it really painful? I am scarred but I have to go to one soon.

I was well over the recommended age before I went as well. Mainly for the same reason as you. I was scared. I ended up going because I really thought about my future plans for marriage and children and realized it was very important to go. If I were you I'd try to find a female doctor who is a gyno. I did this and she eased my fears. When I called to set up my appointment I told them how nervous and scared I was. I reminded them when I got there and they were so kind to me. When you call you could see if you could come in and meet the gyno first and talk with them about what they do. It is honestly not that bad. I know people say that all the time but it's not. All the worrying I did was not worth it. I was a little uncomfortable at first but she was gentle and told me everything she did. It wasn't painful at all. There was one part for like 5 or 10 seconds where I felt a little crampy but not bad and not for long. Please go! It's not bad and it's really important to your health!

it doesnt really hurt. it feels strange put not exactly painful. nothing to be afraid of.

I was worried too, but it turned out to be not bad at all. It didn't hurt at all. It's just a little awkward. But it goes really quick.

A typical exam is not painful, maybe a little uncomfortable. Just relax. If you are overly tense or expecting to be hurt, then, chances are, you will feel any discomfort much more acutely. Most gynecologists are gentle, especially when they know it's your first visit. Don't be scared. It's not torture!

I was "overage" when I went to my first gyn exam, too - the only thing that got me there was working on a gyn cancer unit at a hospital - women younger than me had cancer and that pretty much scared me into it.

Tell your doctor right away when s/he comes into the room that it's your first one. As soon as I said that, my doctor told me exactly what to expect and what she was going to do before she did it, and it wound up not hurting. It's uncomfortable, yes, but honestly it shouldn't hurt. And if you can relax at all that can only help.

I have done this every year since, and it's no big deal now.

Good luck!

When I had mine I felt a little uncomfulble. When they doing it try to tink of a nice place. I was scared to but they got me calmed down. I would have a lady do it, cause they do it to.

its fine for me,because i'm the one doing the examing,
