Starting birth control pills (tri cyclen lo)?!

Question: I was wondering what they really mean by a 'sunday start' for BC. My doctor told me that I could start any day but recommended a sunday and said i could even start this coming sunday if i wanted to.

but when i looked on the tri cyclen lo website, it said that i should start on the sunday after my period. I dont have my period now and probably wont get it till like feb 5th week.

Can i still take it on this sunday and start or should i wait till my period?

Just start on Sunday. The only reason why doctors recommend the "sunday" start is because it's easier to remember and keep track of. Most girls do it anyway. Honestly you can pick what ever day is right for you. You do not have to wait till you get your next period since it will be like a few weeks from now.

you can take it this coming day, the website is just saying that to make sure you aren't pregnant. that's what my doctor told me.

I just take it whenever I get my pill pack, but that's me. It does take a week or so to kick in. Also, my friend got pregnant taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. I read in Cosmo that those pills are less effective. The article was called, "What your gyno hasn't told you."

Im not a medical expert but have been on the pill for longggg time. If you start the pill before you have your period you will probably have break through bleeding so you might as well have your period and start the sunday afterward. Just start on sunday because the label usually has sunday as the start day...

Start the Sunday after your period ends. This starts a whole new cycle for you. If you start just before your period then you will have spotted bleeding for a week. Hope this helps.

I was always told to start after my period was over. But if you aren't having sex, I suppose it doesn't really matter when you start.

As long as you are not currently sexually active, I would wait until the Sunday after your period. You can start this Sunday, but it may take some time to get your period adjusted after you start (may have two periods in one month or skip a few weeks). The benefit of starting after your period is just that it doesn't screw with your natural cycle. Women who have newborns always start off their cycle though because they really don't have a regular cycle, so don't worry about it if you want to start now for safety's sake (just be cautioned that it REALLY is not effective for at least the first week - the first month if you are going to really be cautious!) Also, don't freak out if you do start this week and then have messed up periods for the next month or two.

I know that sounded confusing. Bottom line, my advice would be to wait to start if you can, but you don't HAVE to. No matter what, I would still be REALLY careful for the next month whenever you choose to start. Hope that helps!!

You may have misunderstood your doctor. Sunday start is when you start the pills on the Sunday after your period starts or if your period starts on that Sunday. If you decide to take the pill on the day of your period starts, you should wait 24 hours before doing so and place the sticker of the day you started on top of your pills to minimize confusion. Never start your packet any other day or days you feel like it because it can cause bleeding between period. If you start on Sunday, you should use another form of contraceptive for 7 days in order for the birth control to take effect. If you start on the first day of your period, you do not need another form but I would still recommend it just in case.
