Low carb diet/no period?!

Question: I've been trying to eat low carb since Christmas, and with the exception of several servings of fruit per day, stuck to it pretty well. Almost no bread, no pasta/rice, and few sweets. This past monday, I began sticking to Phase 1 of the South Beach diet. So I've had a lot of eggs, nuts, meat, and veggies. I'm also on the pill, and took my last active pill on Friday morning (Lutera, monophasic). I can generally expect my period on Monday or early on Tuesday. So starting on monday, there were a few smears of blood, but that's it (not usual, flow is usually normal day 1-2). On the off chance I might be pregnant, I took an at-home preg test this morning, which came up neg. So now I'm worried, is it my diet that might be screwing up my period? I've also been going to the gym 4-5 times per week and doing about 25 min of jogging and strength training, but that's not significantly more than I was doing before. Any ideas, please?

Yes, it could mean that the diet is affecting your period but I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.
