Pain during intercourse?!

Question: Please pardon the nature of my question - it is a serious one.

I have searched online and haven't found anything that matches my situation entirely. Please let me say that I do have an appointment scheduled with my ob/gyn, so I am seeking medical attention, but until then the suspense is killing me!

Here's the issue:

My husband can enter me about an inch's worth during sex. If he pushes any deeper than that, it starts burning tremendously. We have been intimate many times of course, and that has not always been a problem. I seem to lubricate well and I don't have any strange discharge - does anyone have any idea what this could be? Thanks for your advice.

YOu must have some sort of internal infection or irratitation that is inside your vagina.......i thought at first maybe because of some sort of sexual disease, but that doesn't make sense if he can be inside for a certain depth, but then it hurts.......sounds to me like the Ob/gyn needs to give you some sort of cream/medicine to clear up what ever is going on inside you..

Good luck!!

maybe you have a vaginal infection that causes the burning? I dunno.

I have that problem when I use certain soaps? Dial or anything harsh bothers me.

Maybe you have a vaginal tear. It can also be the type of protection used.

no but callin your GYN wouldnt be such a bad idea. they can better help you.

this happens to me when I have a yeast infection, or if my husband uses condoms with the warming sensation.

If you are on Depo Provera, it is pretty common for intercourse to start being painful. I was on it for 11 years (unfortunately) and only for the last few years did it become painful, so I didn't even attribute it to that!

Just an idea. There are a number of other things of course and your doctor will figure it out.

Have you ever been checked out by a gynecologist before? If you have, and they haven't noticed anything out of the norm as far as the shape of your vagina, I'd look more into the psychological realm. Painful intercourse usually has one of two causes: inadequate lubrication or tension in the vagina. The latter is in some ways worse... you can always go to the store and *buy* lube, but they don't sell a relaxed vagina.

If your doc doesn't notice anything new amiss with you, you may be tensing up subconsciously during penetration (google "vaginismus"). This is very treatable... one simple and enjoyable technique that helps many women is to have an orgasm *before* the penis goes in. Consciously relaxing or, in more serious cases, a visit to a sex therapist, can help break the cycle. Best of luck!

Are you and your husband getting along? There is a very strong mind-body connection, so if there is a lot of tension in the relationship, it could be related.

If this problem is new and persistent and baffling, you might want to check out a book called 'The Camera My Mother Gave Me' by Susanna Kaysen
