Medical answers please about Calcium and 49 years YOUNG?!
Question: If you are almost 50 -- what is the amount of calcium you should take a day (by grams, etc.) and which is the best to get? Does fish oil help for bones as I've just started taking that -- as it seems to be good for EVERYTHING I need. Thank you!!!!
Oh and I'm healthy ...... no issues at this point -- not at all overweight -- about 130 lbs at 5'6" (in case that matters).....

The first answer is correct: 1,000 mg/day. You'll want to space this out over time each day, since you can't absorb that much at once. Make sure you're taking a supplement that also includes Vitamin D, so you'll absorb as much of the calcium as possible. Calcium citrate (Citrical) is more easily absorbed by the body than calcium carbonate, too.
Fish oil's main health claim is that it's good for the heart. I take it every day, too.
According to about.com, you should be taking 1000 mg daily. The recommendation increases to 1200 mg daily once you turn 51.
