Going on the pill question?!

Question: so i went to the doctor like a week or so ago, because i have really irregular, heavy periods, and i get large blood clot things
and he gave me an option of going on the pill to get a regular, light, and short period...so i took that option. He told me to start taking the first day i start my period.
Well like i said before my periods are really really weird. i never know when it is gonna come, so i usually wear a pad or tampon, and almost always there is something on it, whether its the tampon or pad & usually its kinda like light in the morning. Well two days ago i bled a litle more than usual at night, the day after that i beleive it was the usual, then today it was a lil more like two days ago..during the afternoonishhh.

should i start taking my pill now???
(and usually my period comes sometime the end of the month, then again it is irregular)
if you were to stick a tampon on, will something always be on it...whether its any discharge??
when should i take the pill...night?

i'd read the instructions on your pill box for when to start taking it, now is probably good - mine even said to start taking the pill the first saturday during my period (weird, huh?)

as for when to take it, in order for it to be most effective (if you're using it for birth control too) take it at the same time every day. it doesn't matter what time of day, just as long as it's an easy time to remember (perhaps when you go to bed or when you get up in the morning). a lot of my friends set alarms to remind them!

and no, usually when you're not on your period, a tampon will stay fairly dry (there may be a bit of discharge, but not too much) but i'd use a pantyliner instead.

You can start taking your pills when you think your period is starting--it's really not that big of a deal. You should get your period as normal in the fourth week, though it may not be very heavy.

However, you should NEVER EVER wear a tampon when you're not on your period! Wearing tampons gives you the risk of contracting Toxic Shock Syndrome at any time, so there's absolutely no reason to wear them when you're not on your period. TSS can be life threatening!

Personally, I like the Sunday start (so you begin your first pack on the first Sunday after your period...if you begin your period on a Sunday, take the pill anyways) - beginning of a new week means beginning on the next row :) But I would read your little pamphlet that comes in your pill package. Technically speaking, you can start your pill at any time during your period because in the end, it will only determine where in the week you will have your "period" when you are on the pill.
