How serious is a cyst on your ovaries really?!

Question: I'm 26 years old and I have a 3 year old son. About a year ago I had a ct scan and was told that I had a cyst on my right ovary. They seemed unconcerned so, I lived with the pain for a few months and eventually it went away. I was on the pill at the time which I found confusing because I thought you couldn't get cysts while on the pill. I stopped taking it soon after because I didn't like the way it changed me hormonally. I was having serious mood swings. Anyway, now I am hurting again in my right lower abdomen, through my side and all the way around to my back. I am cramping a little and getting a little nauseas during the day. With these symptoms, my first thought was "I'm pregnant", but after a couple of pregnancy tests and a worsening of the pain, I have come to realize it for what it is...a cyst. I want to have another baby someday. My question is: Is it likely that something bad will happen to me if I just ride these things out because I can't afford to see a doctor?

I have a cyst on my left ovary right now, I would take it seriously if I were you. When I was 12 years old, I had a cyst on my right ovary, the docs told me I just had constipation. I was in extreme pain. I started running 104 fever, and refused to go to the hospital, I had to be dragged out of the bed. Then we didn't know what it was. I just thought I hadn't reached the age to start my period. I go to the ER, waited 2 hours with the fever and extreme pain. The ER docs thought it was my appendix, they got in there and discovered that the cyst on my ovary (was the size of a grapefruit) had twisted around, cut off my circulation, and had caused gangrene. The doctors told my mom that if we would have waited another day there wouldn't have been anything they could have done for me, It would have spread through my bloodstream.

Even though you may not have the money, there are ways to get it, you can get on medicaid, something, care card... Look into it. theres lots of ways to find cheap insurance, just be smart about it.

I'm going to sign the consent forms Monday, and while they're in there they are going to fix my retroverted uterus, I have many female problems. Don't think this cant happen to you, it happened to me when I was only 12, on Christmas eve I might add, I woke up and the pain was 100% better, although I was still hurting the pain felt sooo much better.

good luck

I wouldn't be very concerned. I have PCOS (polycysticovariansyndrome) and I am 17. I have 5 cysts, and have had 3 rupture. I am on birth control to help control the hormones that can cause cysts. Usually this keeps them under control. For the most part they have a little effect on fertility although some women do have problems. See your gynecologist, when you can and they will be able to tell you more. In the mean time you will probably only suffer some mild pain and discomfort. There really isn't a good treatment for it, except birth control. If one ruptures it can be excruciating though and you really should go to a doctor to have it checked out.

I've had cysts come and go for over 6 years now. I've never had any serious problems with them. Some people have very large cysts that do not absorb and need to be removed by surgery. I've never had this happen to me. I'll get one, and it'll last a few months, and it'll just go away. I've got one right now, and I'm 2 months pregnant. it's just hangin in there, but not causing much pain. this shouldn't affect your fertility. I've conceived all 3 of my kids very quickly, and I've had cysts during the first trimester of 2 of them. Don't worry, if the tech wasn't worried, then they are probably a manageable size. IM me if you want to talk about it!

Could be something else, appendicitis is on the right, or it could be a cyst on your ovary. If either ruptures, it could be an issue. When an egg is released, a cyst forms. They are generally not concerned because this is fairly "normal" and unless the cyst is very large, there's not usually risk. There are many birth control pills on the market. Most attempt to prevent the egg from being released, some also attempt to prevent the egg from sticking to the uterus, some try to prevent the egg from maturing, etc. It is not a for sure 100%, so you can still release eggs and get pregnant. If the pain is unbearable, unmanageable or starts to interfere with your daily activities, seek medical advise.
