Your period being brown some of the time is perfectly normal. What comes out of you is not just blood, it is also other tissues and fluids that make up the lining the uterus creates once a month, and then sheds when your period comes. The stringy things are blood clots, they happen because the blood has pooled up inside you at some time when it couldn't get out as easily, perhaps when you were laying down or sleeping. Blood clots are also very normal, I get them all the time. Your period will probably be different colors depending on what day it is, such as, more red when you first start your period, then more brown or pink or tan when it is close to being over. And it is perfectly normal for your period to be very irregular for the first few years you have it. I too started when I was 14 and my periods were irregular well into my 20's!

What you ought to do, to help you keep track of your periods and learn about what your cycles are like, is to buy yourself a little pocketbook calendar, and write down when you get your period. Do something like circle the day it starts, write how long it lasts, whether you had any PMS symptoms such as cramps or bloating or headaches, whether your flow is light or medium or heavy, etc. This will help you learn more about your cycle, and you can begin to track if there are any sorts of patterns as time goes on. A nurse taught me this when I first started and I have been doing this since I was your age, it is very helpful.

As for the coughing, I'm sure it has nothing to do with your period. It could be you have a very mild cold bug that for some reason doesnt give you a runny nose. If you are really concerned about it, you should ask your mom about it, perhaps you can find some medicine in the store to help the cough. She could also probably tell you lots about having your period if you ask her. Mom's are great for that.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

I would keep track of your periods

It kinda sounds like 2 different things may be going on. Yea our hormones are going crazy at your age and whatever you have may have brought your period on, but I don't think they are connected in any other way. It's cold and flu season. You may just be sick a little. If you have had a fever rashes are not unheard of. I would treat whatever you have sick wise, you know bed rest, lots of fluids, perhaps a decongestant to stop the dry coughs and make them productive, and treat your period just as though it were just another period. You can get several things from the drug store if the rash is bothering you, ask the pharmacist.
peace
