Mirena IUD? Anyone have it and can tell me what they think about it and how it w!

Question: I'm supposed to be getting the mirena IUD, but I'm reading online and it sounds like it hurts going in! I just want to hear some peoples experiences with it, both getting it and aftewards. Are the strings annoying? Can your partner feel them? I'm very nervous about it, but as it is really my best bet for birth control because I can't take the pill and I don't trust condoms I'm going for it.

Thanks for taking the time to tell me what you think about Mirena, :-)

I actually have the Mirena(4 months). I love it. A lot of people are not aware of the advances with the IUD and Mirena, so take advice w/ caution. I've been on the pill for years when I developed a blood clot in my leg which travelled up to my lung. This is known as a pulmonary embolism and almost killed me. The best alternative for me was the mirena(no estrogen). The string is so small and you can only feel the tip of the string when you insert your finger near the cervix. I can't feel it during sex, neither can my boyfriend. He actually checks it for me b/c I can't feel it. I was nervous getting it inserted too. It was uncomfortable but I wouldn't describe it as severe pain. It was quick, about a minute. My periods are lighter (2 days). My cramps can be intense but they only last a day. At times when I'm not on my period, I can cramp up slightly, but they pass.
I would love to say go for it, but decisions like this are personal. It was the best thing for me....hands down!!!!

Good luck.

hey
i cant tell you if the mirena is going to hurt or not, but what i can tell you is that its not good for you. it seriously messes with your fertility and i know someone whose grew into her and she had to have a dnc to get it removed.. try the patch.. its so much more safer..

sorry for scaring you and good luck

iv had the iud and it was very painfull for me.. i had emergency surgery when they tried takn it out after 2 n a half yrs it was imbedded in my uterus and it hurt.. i dont recommend the iud at all ..

I've never been pregnant, and I had a Mirena for about a year. It took the doctor 20 minutes to insert it, but it hurt badly for only a few seconds. Once I had the string trimmed, they didn't stick out long enough for me or my partner to feel them.

Just so you know, the Mirena can cause weight gain, less interest in sex, and mood changes. If it's not a good fit for you, though, you should be able to have it removed easily. I had mine taken out after it causes a major pelvic infection, but this is unusual. I miss how it gave me less-frequent periods.

If you've decided to go for it, I hope the Mirena suits you!
