Absolutely do not cancel!!! I remember being all confused and having an awful time with tampons when I was first learning too. I was a ballet dancer so I had to learn...and I actually considered quitting dancing because of it! Lucky for me, my friend's mom was an OB/Gyn nurse and told me a trick...I'll tell you now. It worked for me so hopefully you will also have good luck.

Get a box of tampons - the slender ones. Go into the bathroom at a time when you know you won't be bothered; maybe when nobody else is home. Or turn on the shower and pretend you are in the shower. Open the box and read the directions. Look at the pictures. The problem with the box directions is the girl is standing, which is sometimes not the most relaxing position for newbies. Take off your pants an underwear. Lay a towel on the floor. Lie down on your back, bend your knees and open your legs so your feet are 1-2 feet apart. put a rolled up towel under your head if you want for comfort. Spend a minute just relaxing your stomach and pelvic muscles. When you feel relaxed, take your left hand and use your index and middle fingers to spread open the lips of the labia. Hold the tampon in your right hand in the middle of the applicator and gently guide it inside. Aim for the spot on your back directly opposite your belly button on the front. If it hurts, just breathe and try to re-align it with that angle toward your back. Once the bottom of the applicator is in, keep your thumb and middle finger on the tube thats inside you, and push the top with your middle finger. Again, if it hurts, just breathe and re-align. When you have pushed it all the way, just pull out the applicator. Take a tissue and wipe yourself off if you need to, and then go about your business for about 4 hours. The repeat. When you are more comfortable, you'll be able to do it standing or sitting.

Good luck!!

the morning of take a bath or shower then read the directions on the box and insert the tampon. between now and then practice puttin them in. make sure the area is nice and clean that will help. it takes practice, you will get it.

don't cancel!!!
maybe by the time u hang out iwth your friend your period won't be as bad. then u can just wear a pad and take it out right before u go swimming!! (u don't bleed in water) as soon as u get out.. put a new pad in. OR you'll have to wear a tampon

this is very easy once you have done it more than once. When you buy the tampons there is going to be a paper (instructions) it might not feel right the first time so it might take a couple of times. If it keeps hurting then you might want to try a different angle.

Follow the instructions inside the box. It should even have little drawings so they're easier to understand. The kind of tampon you use really makes a difference too. Make sure you get the right kind for the heavyness of flow you have and the kind with the plastic aplicators will go in smoother.

If worst comes to worse invite her to do something else like watch a movie instead.

clean first then put in tampon you may want to take a shower first they take better that way, read the pakage it should tell you exactly how to put it in once you get the hang of it its easy

meh. it happens. tampons are a messy business.

What you need to do is just spend some time (not at her house) with a nice tampon (not those yucky cardboard ones from bathrooms, but like Tampax pearl or something with a nice plasticy feel) and just try to stick it in. A thin closed top tampon is best for first timers.

Sit on the toilet as though you were going to go potty, only you know, find the hole and carefully stick it up there.

Stick it in, push the little nubby up, and then let the other little bit slide out. That makes no sense, but it will when you do it.

Don't be afraid of blood getting everywhere- it happens.

Good luck!

try the playtex gental glide tampons they might go in easier depending on what kind you wear now
