Period Problems? (Ladies please!)?!

Question: I'm 27 and have been having period's since i was 12.

They use to be like clockwork,..much to my dissmay as i hated the feeling and alway's felt depressed around the time they were due.

As i've got older i've got use to them and kinda think it's a sign of a healthy young woman of child bearing age.

But in the last five years, thing's have changed,...i seem to have one period a year(if i'm lucky!) and that's it!

I don't really miss them as i find my mood's are allot better when i don't have them.(i have suffered from depression for about 6 years and i have taken medication in the past)

I went to my Doctor a few years ago and she did some test's and said it was quite normal as my hormone level's were just slightly under the required amount to trigger my period,so i thought nothing of it and carried on as normal.

For the first time in at least two years i had my period in early January this year, which was a shock!

Is there something seriously wrong?

it could be down to the depression or anti-depressants, stress etc can cause your periods to stop. i suggest you go back to the drs and ask them to do something, maybe going on the pill might help as it will 'force' your body to regulate a cycle, or they can give you something to sort out your hormones and make them come back. but if your happy to not have them then dont worry about it just let your body do things its own way. it might be an idea to get checked and find out the real cause, as i have PCOs and have periods every 3 months roughly so you could have something similar if its not depression related. good luck.

No this can just be traced back to the hormone levels. If you are ever dissatisfied about not having periods or having the inability to bear children you should consider estrogen supplements.

I'd think something was seriously wrong if you were like.. 17-22, but i guess as you get older things change and eventually when you get to the age of 45-50 your period completely stops :)

you didn't say if you took a contraceptive pill, but i suspect not. I wouldn't worry unduly about it, if you are having normal smear tests etc, and you are not anaemic then you should have nothing to worry about. lucky you, I say!!!

as long as your doctor says it is fine and you are happy then you go girl!!

just a hormone in- balance nothing to worry about.body is just chilling out and so should you babe.enjoy Y/A.

erm well seeing as im 14 and i dont know much well if your doctor said it was your hormone levels probably you just havent got enough progestorone or oestorgone (i cant spell them) and sumtimes i think people take testosterone aswell (but im not sure about that one) and if it just is this then your doctor can happily give you some tablets containing these hormones (if you want) but for gettin your period agen well maybe its just that one you have evry year decided to come straight away and dont be worried if they come every month again maybe your body had got enough hormones now but talk to your doctor again please tell her your worrie she can help xxx
