Does birth control really make you gain weight?!

Question: If someone was to exercise faithfully every day, and had a healthy diet, would BC even STILL cause them to gain? I know it doesn't happen to everyone, but if I keep a healthy lifestyle, shouldn't that help to fight weight gain if I start to?

You really won't know until you try :(

Doing exercise every day and eating healthily will be a great start though and will reduce your chances of gaining weight on the Pill, but sadly sometimes the change in hormones does cause women to gain (while others can indeed lose).

For example, if you are pre-disposed already to gaining weight with PMS, like 2-3Ibs of water weight right before your period, then chances are perhaps the Pill will affect your weight as you are obviously sensitive to hormonal fluctuations in the body. But it's really hard to know how your body will react until you go on it.

It does "mimic" the effects of pregnancy so often the breasts increase and a slight curve of the abdomen with fluid retention are some of the less wanted side effects! But it's true that for some women this doesn't happen at all.

It's also very dependent on which type of Pill you choose - some of the newer brands are much lower in hormone dosage so are far less likely to cause weight gain. Some brands such as Yasmin or Yaz even contain a light diuretic which helps some women even lose weight while they take it.

You have about a 50/50 chance of gaining weight or not, but by doing exercise and healthy eating you are probably really going to minimize your risk of weight gain so you should be ok, especially on a newer low-dose brand.

Hope it works out ok for you :)

PS - For some women the weight gain is due to increased appetite but this is still not true for all the weight gain, studies have shown women eat the same but still gain weight on it. Each woman is very different.....

it has diffrent effects on diffrent people

Actually the hormones make you loose weight.

from my experience of it,.. the only reason it would make you put on weight is cz it makes you more hungry.

Because im more likely to put on weight, I obviously did.

My friend is one of those people that you just hate lol who eats everything and doesnt put weight on.. and so when she went on the pill she didnt put anything on because she wasnt susceptable to weight gain in the first place.

If your likely to put on weight then yeah you will probobly. But if you evercise faithfully everyday you should be fine.

Every birth control user has a different effect.
Some gain weight and some don't.

But there is a chance.

It also causes one to have more bladder infections because of it.
