Answers: what was your first period like did it hurt how did u tell your mum?

My first was wasnt bad. I got it in school so when my mom picked me up, i told her and she went to the store, got me pads. And the next day i didnt go to school so i could get settled with it.

Periods don't hurt. I went downstairs and said. Mom, I think I started.. with a blank expression lol. It's easy

very verrrry light....it didnt hurt. and i just came out of the bathroom, and said mom...i need to go to the store, i'm a woman now.

It varies by person ... Some people just start to bleed, others have cramping and such.

I woke up with my tummy hurting, and went to the bathroom, and realized what it was. I already knew what to do and expect thanks to my mom having the talk with me. I didn't wake her, i just told her the next day I had started. She was glad that i felt secure in what do from our talks.

No it doesn't hurt. I told my sister

It didn't hurt, but I do get pretty bad cramping. Midol can be your friend. I definitely told my mom.

You get cramps -- you learn to live with them.
I said "mom, I started my period" and SHE SAID "I knew you were going to start soon because of your attitude lately" -- LOL

AND SHE WAS RIGHT!!!

It was my 13th birthday. Two of my best friends were there, and I told my mom and them that I'd started. XD It was a little embarrassing, but it didn't hurt or anything.

It was...bleedy. I dunno, regular and barely any cramps. :I I didn't expect it to look so dark, so I assumed it was something else. I was juts like "Mommmm..I think somethings wrooong." :I

Ps. I was 11. :P

It didn't hurt at all, although you could have some abdominal cramping which could be quite severe. That may develop later. Early on, it's just a reddish-brown stain on your toilet paper or in your underwear.

As for telling my mom, I just said it. I knew what it was and what to expect. It wasn't a big deal. It's a lot easier than trying to hide it and something going wrong!

periods don't hurt. cramps do.
after that i told my mom i started getting cramps and that i started. she cryed [im the oldest]

it doesnt hurt and you'll no just wait for you and your mom to be alone and say i think my period started its really simple. Just keep a pad in the bathroom for the first time

Long, boring, and annoying. They got shorter, but the first one was sooo long. I won't forget it.

My mum figured out right away. I have no idea how, I was pretty secretive.

i said "hey mom i started my period i need a pad." and she got me one. no big deal.
and no it doesnt hurt unless u have cramps which is just like a stomach ache

My first period was pretty light. I went to the bathroom one day and saw blood when I wiped. No biggie. I didn't have cramps or anything the first time.

My mom and I had already talked about it, so I just went to her and told her that I had started.

Don't be afraid to tell your mom. She's a girl too. She understands.

When I got my period, I was 11 and I was getting in the shower and I looked at my underwear (I was wearing pink underwear and it had two different shads of pink) and I saw it look a little darker than the pink on my underwear, so I stuck my finger under water, dabbed it on my underwear and I found out then, I started my period. My mom was so happy she called her mom, sisters, my dad, her girlfriends. I felt kinda embarresed and exposed.

I was kinda scared and kinda in a daze about it I guess. I was weird cuz I remember it was either Thanksgiving or the day we got together and I had blood in my panties and I put on one of my mom's boats, er, pads. I guess I though gravity would help cuz I sat on the couch in the same position for the longest time so that I wouldn't leak or anything. When I did tell my mom, don't remember if it was that day or a day or so later, she wanted to see to make sure. I thought that was weird. But my mom and I never could talk about anything serious really, still don't. Didn't tell my dad, no way I was doing that. But anyway, it didn't hurt.

Don't remember much about mine, but my daughter walked into the den and blurted out, "Mom, I started my period." I said "Cool." My husband said, "Good job." She glared at us and said, "Could I get some help here?" I'm afraid we were just blubbering idiots, and our daughter had to take charge of the situation.

Yes my first period did hurt - I was sitting in class at school and I got this really bad lower back ache I didnt know what was going on - during recess I went to the toilet only to discover I had my period as my underwear was almost drowned but luckily it didnt leak onto my mostly white shcool dress - so went to the school nurse and got a pad (back then they were more like surf boards LOL - that was 21 years ago)

I told my mum when I got home and she went out and bought me some pads no big deal - I was a little put off by my mother having told me earlier in that year when I asked if periods hurt she said no - I asked her why she lied to me and she said that the period doesnt hurt everyone and she didnt want me worrying about something that might not happen.

I woke up 5 days after my 12th bday with blood all on my pants. I yelled "MOM!" she came in there and I said "I think I started. This is DISGUSTING!" She kinda laughed and brought me a pad and a tampon. Lol, It was drama central!

No it didn't hurt.

it's not even noticable and it doesn't hurt at all...... dont worry about.

if you're embaressed telling your mom just pretend you didn't notice it and when you put your clothes in the laundry lay that pair of underwear out so she'll see it when she does your laundry. she'll by you some pads after that. thats what i did.

hope i helped.....don't even worry about it.....it's not a big deal.

I was 13; in science class one day, felt something oozy in my underwear. Went to the bathroom, saw blood...got a little dizzy until I realized what it was. No pain. Used papertowels until I got home. Said, "Mom, I started my period today." She got all weepy and said, "Oh...you're a woman now." P-u-h-l-e-e-z!

it depends on the person not everything effects people the same

my first period..

i was going into the 7th grade and i was taking summer classes at ohlone college and everyday at lunch i would go and buy a big pack of gummy bears. ( they sold them for really cheap) and then the class after lunch i would have a major stomach ache.. naturally i thought it was because of the gummy bears but one day i skipped the gummy bears and i still had the stomach pains. then i figured it out when i went to the bathroom. i had started my period! i didnt tell my mom for about 3 months. i didnt know how to tell her because she no longer had her's because she had cancer. i didnt really know how to use tampons either.. in fact i just started using tampons the summer of 8th grade. they are life savers. now i know when my period is coming because i get the same side pains. i just take a few advils and its all better! hehe yep.. thats my story =D

It didn't hurt, but I just felt sick and needed to go to the bathroom badly. When I saw it is was really light. I was so scared, I didn't tell my mom until a month later on my second period.

Well it happened in public when I was w/ my parents so yeah, I told my mom right away. I had cramps but I didn't realize they were cramps! It wasn't a horrible.. it was an OK situation

Ok im 14 turning 15 and im soooooooooooooo scared/nervious to start. I DONT WANT TO!!!!! : ( But luckly i still have like a year till i do. BUT STILL!!!!!! (i heard that tampons hurt OUCH!!!! But ill have to use them since im in gymnastics WAAAAAAAA!!!

So, from reading other answers, it seems they've all had rather simple experiences. Mine, not so much: I knew what a period was and everything, but for some reason, I thought I had perhaps wiped too hard w/toilet paper or something. And, when I told my friends, who were outside of the bathroom waiting for me, they all laughed at me, which did not help me when it came to having to tell my mother. In fact, they beat me to the chase, and ran and told her for me, because, well, I was embarassed. She got all maternal and weird on me, and was talking in a whisper,"you got your period?", which again, didn't help in the comfort department. So, she gave me some of her pads, which were like 6-inch thick towels, and the rest is history. Thank God I had a more understanding friend 5 years later introduce me to the tampon and liner approach. Unfortunately, I do have severe cramping, which can happen to some girls, but I deal. Birth control pills help with that a lot. Especially w/making sure to regulate your monthly cycle. I hope this is somehow informative for you. It made me laugh remembering my odd experience.

It was light and I was all prepared because my Mom had ordered me a whole kit from the Kotex company with booklets explaining everything, sanitary pads and tampons.

This was in the days of sanitary belts, which you wore around your waist, and the napkins had ends on them that attached to the belt to hold them against your body. Thank goodness the belts were replaced, for the most part a few years later, and I quickly learned to use tampons, it was just so much easier and more comfortable.

It started when I had just turned thirteen, I had just gotten out of the bathtub, and it started.

I went and told my Mom when I was all dressed and she told my Dad, and of course I was embarrassed, but after awhile it was fine, just an every month occurrence.

I skipped a few months here and there in the first year or so, that is something that happens while your body is getting used to all the new hormones and changes in the way it is working.

I used to occationally get bad cramps and back pain, but I would take Midol and then lie down with a heating pad on either my stomach or back depending on where the cramps were located.

I was lucky that my Mom talked to me and gave me the information from the Kotex company.

Some girls are not so lucky. When I had been in sixth grade, one of my classmates got her period while we were going to the girls room on the way to our lunch break and she started bleeding and screaming that she was dying. Her mother had never told her anything, it was scary. My teacher and the school nurse had to take her to the nurses office and explain what was going on.

You will be fine, and there are so many more choices of wonderful sanitary pads and tampons that are made for teens now, you should not have any problems.

Good luck and have a good day.

when i got my period, it was at the end of the school year in 4th grade. i was on a field trip with my school. i did feel a little bit of cramps. it felt like gas. when we came back from the trip, we were at school. i asked the teacher if i could use the bathroom, so idi. i saw my undies, and there was red and brown stuff there. i just knew i had my period. so it was time to go home, so when i got out of school, i told my friend, jilean about it, she was like omigosh. when i got home i told my sis. then i told my mom and she was soooo proud. and she told a lot of people that i go it. but ofcourse when ig ot home i jumped in the shower.
